Ok so I've been wondering, what exactly is the PROPER pronunciation of Ubuntu?

Is it:

A) You-bun-too

or

B) Ooh-bun-too

???

Good because that's what I say... My drunk friend Duke tried to argue with me that it was option B. And guess what, he's a straight n00b :p

tbh, ive NEVER said it out loud, hence i dont have a correct pronounciation. when i see the word, i more acknowledge it rather than pronounce it.

Matt, u have a degree in this sorta stuff dontya? :p

:( I always pronounced it "Ooh-Bun-too" I are deh n00b, and I use it :(

EDIT:

Heh, looked it up on Ubuntu.com and we were both wrong, but I was more right than you guys :).

"How do you pronounce Ubuntu?

Ubuntu, an African word from Zulu and Xhosa, is pronounced "oo-BOON-too". See the other FAQ on its meaning, it's a worthwhile read, and no, you're not the first person to wonder. :-) "

I know it's oo-boon-too, but often say you-bun-tu.

Sometimes I correct myself midword, which makes it sound weird :p

Ubuntu is an age-old African term for humaneness - for caring, sharing and being in harmony with all of creation. As an ideal, it promotes co-operation between individuals, cultures and nations.
