The order has been placed!

For Christmass this year my wife is letting me upgrade the computer (check out my signature to see what I'm typing on at the moment). It is a 478 socket, so I'm really starting over, not upgrading.

Anyway, I placed the order yesterday for my new hardware:

  • GIGABYTE GA-X38-DQ6
  • Intel Q6600
  • Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) PC-8500
  • Western Digital SE16 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
  • GIGABYTE Radeon HD 3870 512MB
  • Cool Master Real Power Pro 750W PSU
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate

About the only thing I'm keeping from my old system is the case, Sony DVD-R/RW drive, and one of the EIDE hadr drives for backup storage.

I'm still looking into 32 vs 64 bit Vista.

Thats a nice system you have lined up. Is thre any particular reason you're going for ultimate rather than home premium? Could save yourself some money there (if you're bothered of course :P)

id have to agree with the drop ultimate get 4gb comment. it seems like a sweetspot for me :)

(i recommend 64bit also)

Yea most people (including myself) eventually get annoyed with the bloated content of the more expensive Vista versions and end up stripping them down for performance with apps like Vlite.

I would go for the cheapest OS you can get away with and get more memory with the saved money :)

Knit picking there though, I'm sure you wont be disappointed with a rig like that either way

I already have ultimate. I got it when it was released. I had installed it on my old system, but as you can imagine, it was not a pleasant experience. So I can strip it down if needed.

I plan to get another 2g of ram in the near future (my B-day is in Feb). :D
