The Future is Coming... AMD's Quad-Core Roadmap Revealed

It's going to be interesting to see conroe and all the new chips that are comming out and kill our old S939 crap :(

w00t I can hardly wait!!!

...it'll be interesting to see if Intel can have their quad core desktop CPU (Kentsfield) shipping as promised in early to mid 2007, and leading up to their 45nm CPU process CPU's in 2008. These really are interesting times :yumyum:

Although the article is a couple of months old, Tom's hardware has a bit of a headsup on the proposed Intel roadmap. Penryn - 45nm (Yorkfield core) = 8 cores with 12Mb of shared cache.

wonder if its the right or left b*** they want for that cpu or both :banghead:

any price ideas for that cpu ?

LOL Raven, I reckon it'll be the whole meat and potatoes in order to purchase one. Price ideas? Erm well out of my reach to adopt early methinks :(

but on the other hand 45nm process means it will be cheaper to manufacture and prices goes down as technology evolves so dont think a quadcore will be that price around 2009-10

just looking at dual cores today, a x2 4200+ comes in at 658AUD

the price is always highest the first year and if amd can match intel's cpu then it will pressure prices even more.

ack a couple of years to wait. i am not going to wait for AM2 i think its a joke atm, no real big improvement. I just dont like the DDR2 timings for they seem to be extra lose

But lets think about it people, I mean is there really a need for these huge powerful cpus? I did indead say that when i first got my 800 mhz ( think ) AMD and said " 1 ghz yeah right " "DDR yeah right". I just cant bring myself to spend that kind of money anymore for something that is only going to improve my gaming.

Now if it was folding sure, but then again that is going to be a bit of an "overkill" when it comes to that. I would like to see more improvements on HDs speeds and more affordable ( Raptor = to small and way expensive ). We havent really gotten to the point to use both cores right now effectively let alone 4. Its a nice idea, I would want one , I just cant justify starving my kids on Mac and CHeese for a few months to be able to upgrade the whole system...again

No I agree with you in some ways. I just like having the fastest bits :ar:

Its an addiction

Yeah the next drug of the new age, some people gamble, us computer geeks own the newest most expensive parts lol... I guess this goes in hand with the QUAD SLI. Now why do I need 4 video cards LOL...

Hey I got it ...so if you have 4 video cards why not have one core..ack nm I just wonder what my kids will own when they get to the age of having thier own computer
