The Cosmos SR-X- Factor

Really nice job dude! After the things Tom said in his review of the SR-X I wasn't sure how the board was going to look like, but this rig looks awesome.

Yeah, i think its fair to say that Tom wasn’t very impressed, i on the other hand loved it from the start and once the BIOS issue was sorted i like it as much as the SR-2, if not better, plus i’m well happy with how it looks in the Cosmos II.

i have a question though, has the SR-X had enough of an update from toms reviews as at the moment im swaying more towards the asus z9pe-d8 WS as i thought he had some valid points but as you have had a good play around and have made such an awesome rig you may think differently?

To be honest, i’m not in Tom’s league when it comes to reviewing hardware but where as Tom wasn’t happy with the whole aesthetics of the board with things like the CPU sockets not being level and DIMM slots being uneven, i thought it gave the board much more character and made for much more interesting hose routing but that’s just my personal preference and lets face it, the board officially supports 96GB of memory and there are guys on the EVGA forum running 192GB so i can’t see it ever being short of memory :huh:

Yeah the PCIe slots aren’t a true red but if you go back and look at the pictures in post #68, can you honestly tell?? and while you’re there, check out the cable management which i’m renowned at being totally useless at but even with LED cables for the CPU blocks, i wouldn’t say it was difficult or looked too bad.

I also found the battery issue no biggy as its easy to get a small driver in there and flick it out should you need to.

For sure the Z9PE is a much more polished overall board but simply not for me as i tend to go the “maverick” route everytime...........its just the way i roll :yelrotflmao:

Tbh i dont think any of us are in toms league but at the same time you have experience of using this board and although a couple of hundred pounds for a board is nothing compared to the 3.2k for the CPU's its something i want to get right so its always best to turn to people like you to be sure :)

I get all the points you mentioned and saying that youll have some GPU's/RAM in the slots you wont see much of them. I also suppose that the bios update was kinda crucial as im heading towards a nvidia maximus set-up so will need all the power i can et from the CPU's.

Well id considered the battery and for the once ive been forced to remove one i think i can live with taking the heat sink off. The Asus Z9PE does look slightly more polished but the SR-X has the looks, for that reason i think if i did get the Z9PE i would be stripping it down and giving it a nice paint job and some custom waterblocks (more for looks but it should help if im running all 4 of the PCI-E 16x lanes at full pelt).

Well the newly installed EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified Power Supply finishes this mod off perfectly and i’ve got to say, i think this is as close to perfection i will ever get.

Yes there were a couple of issues with the original BIOS on the SR-X board which were quickly ironed out but since then i’ve never looked back and its been rock solid ever since.

Simply put, there is absolutely nothing i would change with this system which is probably a first for me.........oh wait, yeah i’d add another couple of 680’s for good measure or swap them out for a couple of 690’s but apart from that, this is as good as it gets for me.

Sorry for dragging up an old build but its upgrade time!

I got the new Kingston HyperX Beast for this rig today so will be getting that fitted as soon as i get a minute.

They sent me 3 x 32GB kits so will have a total of 96GB to play with which should be plenty and it looks rather nice too :)

And how do you like the EVGA PSU? Are they good competitors for the corsair HX / AX series? I mean they are quite a bit cheaper!
