The Archive

Archive, noun: archives, a place where...documents are kept

The plan is this: to remove all the storage from the PCs in the house, and store it on one central server, allowing access to all files from anywhere in the house, using any PC or laptop we have. It also needs to be able to stream live TV via Freesat, using MediaPortal and TVServer, across the network.

The server box will sit next to my main PC, so it has to follow a strict theme; white, with black finishings and white lights, if any. As I'm low on money, this project will probably take a couple of months to do.

Hardware

Bitfenix Prodigy (Arctic White)
Asus P8H77-I
Intel Pentium G620 @ 2.60GHz
Corsair Value Select 4GB [1x4GB] 1333MHz
Compro Videomate S350
Western Digital Red 6TB [2x3TB] in RAID-1
Western Digital Black 2TB [2x1TB] in RAID-1
530W be quiet! PURE POWER CM L8-CM
Corsair A50 or H50 (possibly even passively cooling?)

This'll be my first mITX build, and probably somewhat more complex than my 600T is (read; more fiddly for my fat fingers)! Anyway, first small modification, lose the Bitfenix 120mm front fan (totally useless in the white case) and replace it with my spare Corsair 200mm case fan from the 600T, which has a white LED and should provide a little bit of light over the HDDs and out of the top of the case. I will be utterly amazed if it manages to pull in any air, unlike the black version of the case, the front is a solid piece of plastic!

Anyway, on with some photos!

I know it's not much, but I thought I'd start the thread anyway :)

Personally I would have gone with an an matx case and mobo but anyway, I really would not recommend the WD Black drive, for storage you are much better off with the cheaper WD Blue or WD Green

The Blacks are coming out of my 600T, and will probably be removed when I can afford another couple of 3TB drives (only available in Red afaik?)

And as for the case, you're probably right, but I have a problem when it comes to things that look nice, I have to buy them :(

I think the prodigy is an amazing case :)
I might even do a build for my parrents (hackintosh) in it :D

How do you make the math on the HDD work

3*1=3 not 6!

The reason why you is couse you are running raid1, wich writes the same on bougt drives. Ao if you are running raid1 you will lose haf of the amount of storage,

Math is fine, my explanation isn't, sorry! :P It was written as: I have 6TB of hard drives, which is two 3TB hard drives, which will be put in RAID-1, giving me 3TB of storage across the array. Same for the 1TB drives. I knew what I meant anyway :(

@AverageNinja: Everyone seems to use them for Hackintosh!

You may want to look at a silverstone fully modular psu, and for £13 from Scan, you can buy a short cable kit for it which would work a lot better with an ITX rig. Shouldnt cost too much more

I love the cute white Prodigy, looks awesome.
but where will that 200mm fan suck air from? those tiny openings all around the front panel?

I was thinking the same, I guess the black version has mesh in the front, why the white one not?

I'll find out when I get something to put in it to test, will post a video for you also :)

I'll also try without the front fan plugged in, to see what temps are like - if they're no different I'll take it out.
