I just thought I would post a thread for this if anyone was curious as to what my latest PC looks like.

This is not supposed to be the best looking build but more of a workhorse so it could be quite rightly described as ugly.:)

I have used GTX 980s in the build for now as a stop gap but some of you who know me will be able to work out from the title (T-REX) what will be going in there when they are available.

This build has had a few twists and turns as I tend to use what works best so change plan as I go along. For example I was going to use a 900D case but when it fell to bits coming out of the box I decided to change to a LDV8 which is a very solid case.

I was going to use the DDR4 3000mhz in the pics but this kit konked out after a week so I replaced it with the 3200mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum kit.

Parts List.

LD V8 case.

Some benches like Unigine Valley and 3dmark Vantage on the normal preset are not worth running due to the huge CPU bottleneck.:)

Talk about overkill ;)

That case is stunning, but I cant help but think that the tubing shouls be a colour other than black. Maybe green or white

I have another system in an all black LDV8 case that needs rebuilding, I will be using white tubing and cables on that one.:)

Now as much as this looks like sweet candy to my eyes, I can't help it but see the the big fat ass "expensive" on this beast. Nice one though dude! :D

Love it dude, but then what's not to like about it, if you don't mind me asking Kaapstad what is it you do that requires so much high end equipment? Always great to see huge overkill on the forums though :)

I have always been interested in how things work and what they will do.

There is so much rubbish written on tech sites and forums (not this one) about things to do with 4 way GPUs and it is fun to find out what the real story is.

Another thing I am finding really interesting at the moment is CPUs bottlenecking GPUs at 1080p for example. Did you know that different GPU architectures bottleneck differently, for example as a rough guide Hawaii GPUs are harder to bottleneck than Kelper and Maxwell is the best of the lot and will allow much better fps for a given CPU clock than the other two. It is only as the resolution increases that the other architectures start to catch Maxwell up and even overtake it. This was done using 4 GPUs at a time so the results will be different using one or two GPUs.

Awesome dude :) I'd be real interested to see just how far they would go in 3D model rendering, and just how many verts it would take to cause slow down.

How does it fair amongst your other setups Kaap? I'd like to see the top run on each of your rigs for one benchmark in a graph. The numbers look impressive on their own but without context I don't know what to think of them.

Commenting on the build aesthetics I know isn't really one of your objectives but I don't like the look of it. It doesn't look good enough to impress me and it doesn't look bad enough for me to think it's just an impressive collection of performance kit. Like I know it's not a hyper-car that's built to be beautiful but it doesn't look like a race car where everything is done only for performance. o.O make sense, like it's kind of a build but really a bench rig but in a box, like wut. I respect that and I fully understand what you do with it but just find it hard to lust over which is odd when money wasn't a particularly limiting factor.

As far as synthetic benches and games go @1080p the 980s 4 up win most of the time, as the resolution goes up the 290Xs start catching up and @2160p the AMD cards win more often than not. The Titans 4 up are not as fast as the other setups unless a lot of VRAM is needed then they come out on top, there are some things the Titans really are good at though like Heaven 4 @2160p where they beat the 980s and 290Xs. The other thing about the Titans @4K is they are smoother than both the 290Xs and 980s for gaming but unless you see it, it is hard to put in a graph. I once turned the Titans loose on BF4 maxed with twice the resolution of 4K (more than 16 million pixels) and they were still averaging over 60fps with mins in the high 40s, the Titans do like a heavy workload.:D

I do run a lot of bench threads with my cards and other peoples in so you can see the differences, if you do a search they should be easy to find.

Damn, this is nice - so much overkill! What are your temps - delta for CPU and load temps for your gpu´s?

Here is a screenshot of the cards going flat out overclocked @4K on Unigine Valley. The temps are in the top right hand corner so you may have to scroll across a bit.:D

FnWcqb4.jpg

As for the CPU @4.0ghz the cores get into the mid 40s with an ambient temp of 25c so a delta of about 21c, this is running Cinebench15 on the CPU tests.
