SysXtreme - Possible Downtime

In the next few days SysXtreme.Com and all partner sites (SXGaming.Com, SX-Wap.Com, SX-Radio.Com, MailXtreme.Com...) will be moved over to a new DNS provider.

Moving DNS providers *should* not cause any problems, but if you are unable to access the site, normal service should resume 24hrs later.

This move will enable us to perform an instantanious switch from our current hosting provider, over to our own new server when it is put in place (in the next 2 weeks).

An announcment will be made once the server switch has taken place, as the new server is based on slightly different technology which should make the response times of SysXtreme much faster BUT may cause some small issues which will need to be ironed out

The new server will bring many great things to SysXtreme.

Jim I'm thinking we shoulf get a large capacity storage drive for it so that the upload server can also be run from it, as well as the stuff that we currently have in the download section.

when you move your DNS servers will you be using those domains as a Redirect to this server?

I assume thats how your doing it - i was just thinking because having used domains names to redirect to other servers i got problems with users logging in. You would type in your user name and password click login and it would send the details but it just wouldnt login, just refresh the page, i guess it was somthing to do with cookie handling - never solved the problem.

Just interesting to see how you do it!

Hi mate, no there will be no redirecting going on. The IP address of sysxtreme.com will physically change, and and site will be running on our own server in a datacentre in london.

The only small problems i forsee are:

A) Some people may have the current sysxtreme.com ip address cached at their ISP, meaning the change wont be instant for them, and as a result they will see the "sysxtreme.com is moving" notice longer than anyone else.

B) You may need to clear your cookies and cache, or you might see some funky stuff.

IP address wont help as the server is going to be running several sites using name based hosting (host headers).

People who do experience problems can try running 'ipconfig /flushdns' from the command line, to clear any entries from their machine - but this will not affect any cache that the ISP has.

woot? so your going to be held in some folder on a web server with lots of other sites on the same server

dont the SX gaming site have their own dedicated server? or is that CS:S server?

would be cool if you could use that for sites...
