System HDD set up Question

Hi Ladies and Gents, hope you are having a wonderful festive season.

Quick question if you don't mind.

I'm planning on the following:

Motherboard : ASUS x58 Sabertooth

Primary O/S Drive : ~120tb SSD - Vetex 2 or Corsair Force or Kingston.

That part is simple, but how should I set up my main storage array, utilizing the best specs of the Sabertooth? I want 2-4tb of space, with data protection/backup. My initial thoughts were Raid 5, but the more I read the more problems i see. So here are my 2 other options:

1. Buy 4 or 6 1TB Drives (say F3's) and put them in a RAID 10; or

2. Buy 2 1TB Caviar Black put them in Raid 0 (using SATA 6 controller on the Sabertooth) and then just by a big 2-3TB eco drive for backup??

Option 1 will be cheaper and should still be reasonably fast right, so that's where I'm thinking, but would like some suggestions. Should I be trying to utilize the SATA 6 controller?

Cheers,

I think you mean TB not GB when you talk about the HDDs. Always use the Intel controller, even if it is SATAII only, it's just better. The quickness of an SSD does NOT come from the sustained read/write rates but from it's access time 0.x ms, while a HDD has around 12 ms. You cand RAID0 as many HDDs as you want, the access time will still be around 12ms.

Get 1 crazy fast SSD and a pair of WD Green drives for storage, RAID1 them.

Thanks for the reply cheers. Yeah whoops type on the TB / GB. Wonder what my brain was doing when I typed that, was on holidays.
