- 3 Months ago i bought a GTX Titan X to replace a 7970ghz (it s a crossfire, but i use only 1 card)

- Still i had no time to insert it in my case, i haven' t turned on my desktop gaming pc in the last months

- I m going to buy a new Titan X Pascal and still i have to try my old Titan X Maxwell.

- now seems that also this summer i m not going to have time to turn on my gaming pc. so i m not going to try my new Titan X Pascal for months (and my old Titan X Maxwell too).

i can use my laptop gaming pc (with a old GT 750m) every day.

Is it time to Switch to FULL MOBILE (Gtx 980m) instead of buying the new TITAN X Pascal?

Performace hit is huge : also my current Titan X Maxwell is far better than gtx 980m

I think mobile pascal is coming soon, judging by the recent rumors. I'd wait until then to decide.

Pascal has huge per/watt gains, so their new mobile stuff should perform great.

I'll be honest, you seem to be in the habit of losing money, buying what you don't need. You buy a Titan X and never used it, losing hundreds in the process. You are about to rinse and repeat with the pascal Titan X.

Since you don't mind burning money, how about buying one of those external GPU enclosures for the laptop so you can at least make use of those shelf ornamental Titans.

Just trying to help and no offence intended.

so you vote to go full mobile?
avoid to buy the new titanx pascal and wait to buy a new notebook with 1080m?

Performance gap between titanx pascal and 1080m is big too btw :(

i won t lose money intentionally, i always hope to have time to test the gpu i buy, but in the last years it seems i have no time. (when i was younger it was the opposite)

I was sure i was going to have some time this summer to test both cards, but now i m sure i can t.

the external gpu box is a good advice, but it s only something additional to the new laptop:

- my laptop is old without connections for the box
- i have to buy a new laptop with a gtx 980m + the box to use my cards

but if i have the box, it means i m at home ... so why not use my Desktop instead ? :(

980m is at roughly the same performance with GTX 970 .. so you are crazy if you fo this way, a better solution for now will be 980 (notebook edition) which is exactly the same board as gtx 980 (so at least 20 % better than the 980m) but I am sure soon enough the new line of mobile GPU;s will be release by Nvidia, 1080m or a 1080 (notebook edition) will rule the world of your games for the next year or so :)

of course the second ideea would be to buy a notebook with TB3 and connect an external GPU to it :) taking almost no hit in the process (except $$$)

sadly i can t use a big laptop or the external box when i m not at home.
i can carry only a small laptop (mine is 14" with gtx 750m and it s already too big) and gtx 980m is already the max gpu in small notebooks :(

You've simply got to ask yourself if paying twice as much as a 1080 for roughly 20% more performance is worth it to you.

You really ought to just wait for mobile pascal then... You may not intentially burn through your money, however the way you plan certainly does.

If you dont want to step down from a Titan X like Dice suggested, then defo go with any option that is not purchasing the Titan X.

I don't understand why you would even consider spending that much money on an already grossly overpriced gpu when you're not going to have the time to "test" it. I presume by test you mean "spend every available moment gaming the living crap out of it", because if you buy these things just to see what they run like then you really do have more money than sense :)

I would mirror what everyone else says and stick to what you currently have until Pascal M comes out, then buy a 14" laptop with a 1080M mobile gpu.
