Swiftech MCW6500-T

I've seen these for about £100 and I originally set out to have one in my WC loop. Fear stopped me that time. This it certainly won't. However, it comes with a 50mmx50mm 226w TEC in place. I have a Q6600 which I have had running a 3.8GHz on my normal setup (reduced due to summer) but I would like to see 4GHz for 24/7 like the 3.8GHz was. My WC setup has evolved through its annoyances and now with my TJ07 winging its way here on Monday I can fit loads of Rads to keep it chilly.

I run a Q6600, 2x 8800GTXs in SLi, 2x 1GB OCZ gold DDR3 1333MHz, 4x 320GB HDD, 2x DVD-RW. Its overclocked and Orthos stable. In the WC loop I have a dTek Fuzion v2 with quad nozzle, 2x EK full cover 8800GTX and Asus Fusion NB/SB block (BTW anyone know of metal 1/2"-3/8" connectors?) with a PA120.3 radiator. Everything works perfectly at the moment but CPU temps are hitting 71 in Orthos and 69 under gaming. So i'd like to take the bite out of temps. I will be getting more radiators to really cool the loop given the extra space I will have.

Will the MCW6500-T be able to handle my OC?
 
I have a Zalman "silent" CPU cooler that apparently deals with a 3GHz OCd Q6600. Given 80W TECs on eBay for £20 and you get 10. Buy a copper block for bugger all. I realise an 80W TEC will not do much but it will bring down temps a bit.

Could I build a TEC chiller using the fan for the TEC and 80W TEC?
 
To answer your first question mate - the answer is probably no. A 226w TEC will not only eat electricity, but on a Q6600 you will probably end up with worse temperatures under load than you'll get from a decent standard watercooling setup.

I cant really make head nor tail of ur 2nd question tho :s
 
normally, this TEC is able to cool your cpu, i have this Swiftech on my core i7 965 @ 4115Mhz with Bclock of 187.

My Core is running at around 30°C.

The only thing you have to look at , is that the water for cooling the 6500 TEC is cooled enough by your rad.

There is a formula, where your theoritical calculate the temp you should have :

dTload = (1 - (heat load/max cooling power)) * max temp difference

where heat load = CPU cooling requirement and max cooling power = peltier rating and max temp difference = peltiers max dT under no load.

For example, the 156 watt TEC can cool a CPU with ambient at 25 C as follows:

dTload = (1 - (65w/156w)) * 48.5 C = 28.3 C

Theoretical CPU Temp = 25 C - 28.3 C = -3.3 C

You have to stop digging up old threads. Please look at the date they were created and think to yourself if they're going to be dead or not.

Also the thread was left because the cooler was crap and after using a far more advance calculation system I now know why.

Hint: Your equation is a bodge GCSE equation. Physics 101 efficiency then apply.

Have done a fair bit of research whilst I am far from an expert I have learnt a fair bit without actually owning one.

You will need a monster WC setup as you must add the wattage of the tec at max load and the cpu at max load (baring in mind anything else in the loop.

Your Tec idealy needs to have a watt rateing with at least 30% headroom left eg your CPU is 100W your gonna need TEC capable of atleast 130w bare minimum.

You are gonna most likely gonna need a aux PSU again capable of powering the TEC again you don't want the PSU to be maxed out when the TEC is.

From what I have heard many PSU's cannot accomodate the TEC due to its power draw/ampage requirements especialy when useign the ''the real peltiers''

Many say the swiftech tec doesn't really cut it, is a very entry level peltier and a good WC is better for the upper end of overclocking, for this pro's are recommending buying a peltier and cooling it with a conventional WC block and of corse insulating it, which in itself was a turn off for me as I liked the idea of the insualtion and a manual :)

your gonna need lots of di-electric grease for the socket plenty of foam insulation and conformal coating is highly recommended. there is no room for error as I'm sure your aware that if it's not 100% airtight you will get condensation and its game over!!!

All in all I found this far to ''experimental'' and risky myself, and it seemed to be the swiftech peltier just simply wouldn't meet my requirments...many are a little dissapointed.

i put a 288w TEC between the sandwish, and i gonna use a Waterchiller that cools the liquid to 0° a 1°C,

and i have Acrylic compound spray, dialectric grease and so on read for use.
