Swapping fan in TX650 V2

I have a Corsair TX650 V2 coming on monday. Not the PSU I was planning on, but the store offered me one for about £33,- which I would call a pretty good deal.

Anyway. From what I read on the internet, the only downside to this PSU is the fan which is suppose the be a bit louder than some would like.
So it seems like a good idea to upgrade the fan.

Swapping out the fan should be simple enough. I have plenty of experience working with electronics. So no worries there.

The question is which fan to put in there. Do I need high static pressure, high airflow or what? Having not done this before, I don't really know which is better for a PSU fan.
I need to find the best performance/noise ratio. Preferably less than 10db., but definitely not above 20db..

I've done a couple of psu fan swaps over the years. I just picked the quietest most reliable fan at the time. I would say SP is more important than AF, as you're wanting to push the air through the PSU heatsinks.

I just replaced the yate loon in my tx650v2 with an enermax t.b silence which seems to be doing a decent job and is definitely quiet.

I didn't release that the stock fan was a yate loon. I've used them in the past and they are pretty quiet.??

They can be quite obnoxious when running at full speed. The older Alienwares were fitted with them throughout and I replaced them all with F12s.

Quite surprised at Corsair really. I mean Yates are OK and get the job done but they are cheap crap really.

Would expect it in a CX but not a TX.

I agree. It seems strange that they would choose such a cheap fan for this line. Especially considering that they get these PSU's from Seasonic which is not exactly a cheap OEM.

I have a few of the F12's around here somewhere. Got a good price on a bunch of them a while back and they are actually really nice fans for their low price.

But I have always been quite partial to Enermax fans myself.

I'd love to buy a load of expensive fans tbh but cheap ones do do the job just as well.

I got the F12s for £3.60 each delivered. They're pretty much giving them away at that price :)

Small update.

Having used this PSU for a few days now, I don't think I will be changing the fan right away.
As is the norm, the fan is temp controlled. And from what I have read it does not start until it reaches 50C.

I have only seen it do anything during some pretty severe torture testing. The rest of the time it just sits there and says nothing.

To make sure I manually measured the temperature of it during gaming. Even after five hours it was still below 50C and everything is as it should be.

My best guess it that the stories of it's noise problems, come from people with really hot boxes.

Cool, glad you're happy with it. I don't really like cracking open power supplies unless I really have to.:)
