Studying abroad (university)?

University with "HAVO"?

Hi there OC3D forums!
So lately I've been thinking.
My dream has always been going to a university (and if possible in Canada), and study IT or maybe even go the "CSI" way. If all else fails, I'd like to be a dentist.

Though here in the Netherlands we have a really strange education system. We have three levels in High School. VMBO (the lowest), HAVO (middle) and VWO (Master). I'm doing HAVO at the moment because I screwed up VWO (I did the English VWO where you get classes in English). I even needed to re-do the second class because my grades weren't really good.

At this stage, I have medicines which help me to concentrate on my homework and makes it easier for me to remember the things I studied because I have ADD (ADHD without me being really hyperactive). If I would've gotten these medicines when I was on VWO, I'm sure I could've finished that.

If you want to go to university in the Netherlands, you need VWO. I read that you could go to university in the States when you're done with HAVO, but I'm not sure this is true. Is there anyone who can help me with this?
It really is my dream to do this.

P.S. I'm doing a special type of HAVO, in which I get some subjects in English. At the end of this year (year 3 of 5), I'll get a certificate which certifies that I'm really good at speaking and writing in English. This'll make it easier for me to at least go to regular college abroad. Not sure about university though.

i can't help you with your problem, even though i am considering myself to study abroad when i'm done with school. i find it quite funny that your first choice is IT and the next best thing is dentist, those two things must be the furthest apart two things can be lol. anyways, good luck with your search :)

In the US, depending on the University, they'll often only take into account SATs which you'll need to do, then they'll normally make you an offer based on that - although in the US, it is incredibly expensive unless you can get a scholarship for something.
It's worth asking round. Different universities take into account so many different things, whilst others, like a lot of the US ones as I said will only take into account SATs.

Send a few emails asking what you'd need to do to apply, and what qualifications they'd want.
Send emails to universities in the UK, US and Canada if you want to go there. Won't hurt by asking.

I know, it's more about the choice I need to make this year. I'm not good at physics at all. In fact, it's my worst subject. But for IT I need to choose Physics. If that's not going to work out, I'll have to choose something else :p

I will look around. I heard in Canada you do need "VWO", so maybe the States or the UK might indeed be worth looking at.

Why do you need physics for IT?

Are you applying for CompSci? Other areas of IT sure do not require the knowledge of physics.

TBH you would be better off asking on an educational/student based forum for a solid answer.

I think for the best chance of getting accepted to a study in the IT you need to choose: "Natuur en Techniek" (Nature and Technic). When you choose that, you can't choose not to do Physics.

Well I am in Scotland and I am going to be doing a HND in computing next year and then in 2 years I will do the degree course, for that I only need 2 highers in any subject, preferably computing of course, Highers are the second highest thing you can do in school so I would guess they are the same as HAVO? Although there are a lot more then 3 levels you can do in Scotland
