Students Can Get Windows 7 For £30

So I can upgrade a vista x64 license to a windows 7 license?

Its not an upgrade as in install vista then install windows 7?

Just literally get the disk, and upgrade my current serial key so that it no longer works as a vista key but now a windows 7 key?

The official MS page says installed version of XP or Vista under Requirements so I wouldn't be surprised, they can be crafty buggers :D

I gather that it'll be an upgrade edition in which case I think I'll stick to the copy that I preordered for £63 a couple of weeks ago though I might take advantage of this deal for my parent's machine. :)

It's worth getting even if you don't want it yourself; I'm sure there are people you either know or visit ebay that would be interested in buying it from you for a few bob over costs :D

Hmmm, not too sure about the upgrade thing...

You could fool the Office upgrade edition back in the day by pointing the installer back at the office disk and it found an install! :) May work..

If it is an upgrade, going from 32bit vista to 64bit 7 would be problematic!

Unless I could just use the CDkey in my RTM windows 7 to activate it? would pay for that! :)

I guess the best thing to do for the time being would be to use the RTM to perform an 'upgrade' install rather than a standard install. It'd certainly let you know if there will be any problems going 32-64bit. Of course if you didn't activate it by the time you got the new key it'd probably deactivate and you'd have to do it all again :D

May be better off just buying it and selling it on if it's no good :)

id get it if it was just "upgrading the key" but i dont like the idea of upgrade installs - too many files involved lol

Can't you just do the upgrade over itself dealio that you could with Vista upgrades? That's what I did with my student copy of vista ultimate.

I honestly hate the term "student"

When it comes to this kind of thing why do they say students when they blatently dont mean it!

It should be £30 for anyone who goes to uni.

I'm a fulltime student,i dont have to be in school, but i chose to stay on, yet i dont qualify because i dont have a .ac email address

This kind of thing really bugs me

Just signed up for it now. Looks like its an upgrade you download, just run an executable file and it upgrades your system and keeps your files (or so it says :p ), or you can run a 'custom' install where it will wipe a partition and install it on there like normal.

Also, they try and make you buy the Home version, but theres a little link at the bottom to Windows 7 Professional, still for only £30! Ive gone for 64bit Professional, £30 :p not bad

Cant get ultimate, just professional. Its just where you click to buy Home, underneath it says somthing about needing to connect to a certain network, click here and its the link to professional for £30 :)

Just found out from my cousin that you can buy more than one copy with each .edu account.

Baged myself a copy of Win7 Prof. :D

Anyone got theirs yet? (via this method!) My email came through but still dling.

Interested to know about install limitations etc.

It is an upgrade and not a full install so you will need a pre-installed OS on the hard drive/partition.

Bit lame.

Stupid thing is that it is called an upgrade when it will wipe your hard drive out and install 7.

Unless you have the Vista equivalent, you will need to do a "wipe-out upgrade".

The upgrade method is great.

Just need to install 7, don't stick in key.

Wait til it gets there. reinstall it.

It's happy you have an OS. Install key.

?????

Profit.

You tried and tested with the versions on offer here?

I was using Win7 RC on my HDD. Downloaded the student version of Windows 7 Professional yesterday and installed it on my SSD's, no problems at all. The only other OS I had installed was RC so there is no need to reinstall XP or Vista which is what I was thinking I would have to do. Much easier :D

Using it now, all running fine and such :)

so even with backup disk or w/e u need an existing Os installed?

Yes. When you download it, you get a .exe/.msi file and two other .box files.

You need a Windows OS to run .exe/.msi files right?
