a h100 allows my 3770k to get to 4.5ghz comfortably before temps reach 80c
whereas a d14 would probably allow 4.6-4.8

yep
not a fan of seagate (but? go WD);
yep
i doubt you will be overclocking the 3770K, so is the D14 necessary? (get a H100);
but he wants his rig to last 4yrs - i suggest a mild overclock to about 4GHz.
the H100 will not fill up the rig as much as the monster D14, and also not limit him to ram choices
yep
get a 750W or better PSU
Will do. Thanks for all your help.
Of course I will, though being my first build I can't promise that it will look pretty!
