Not sure were to put this

I have been running my Opty 144 1.8Ghz stock at 2.7Ghz with 1.425V but the past few months I have getting a problem were by say I am playing bf2 there is a high pitch scream noise that comes from my speakers and then the computer locks up and I have to hit restart.

This morning I updated my BIOS to the latest version and lost my clock :P

So I am running my CPU at 2.2 GHz this morning 1.425V 255MHz HTT, (ram at 512 MHz) (500 MHz stock)

And I loaded COD2 up and the same happened again :(

System temp 45C

CPU no load 38C Load 42C

Gfx card No load 50C Load 65C

Case 30C max

Are you running the onboard sound? If so my suggestion is to get a real sound card and pull out the Karajan module completely. I had some wierd issues with my sound after a while on my SLI-DR when using the Karajan.

Ok well that cancels that out completely. Definately sounds like an instability problem elsewhere. I would try kemps suggestion. RAM is like the number one suspect hardware in most computers when they start taking the plunge.'

I'd clock back up as high as you were before you updated the BIOS and then try running memtest to see what it reports.

You say this only happens in games right? OC your comp back to where you originally had it, all settings the same and then prime it for 8 or so hours. It could be your vid card locking up the system, that's happened to me before as well.

This is why I hate computers, lol. It could be sooooooooooo many things and sometimes the process of elimination doesn't even work completely accurately.

But now I'm starting to lean towards vid card if it's only hanging in games. Do you have it OC'd? What kind of cooling on the card as well?

I think it’s the Card tbh as its second hand and the guy used to run it at 711/900 24/7. How ever I have never ran it OC'd and it has a Artic Cooling Accelero X2 Cooler (temps in OP)

how good is the psu you use ?

you put much more strain on it when gaming then when running prime95.

a x1800xt at stock speed uses around 30w in windows and up to 103w in gaming and even more if its overclocked.
