Strange PC Behaviour

Just Built a PC for my mate all brand new hardware. Specs:

2600K

Gigabyte GA-Z68Xp-UD4

8GB Corsair Vengence LP 9-9-9-24 1600MHz 1.35v

Noctua NH-D14

AMD HD 6970 Stock

PC been running happily for 3 days overclocked at 4.5GHz stable and then this randome thing happened. This is the sequence of events that occured.

BF3 for about 2 hours then end of round my mate lent to get his phone of the top of PC he knocked the power button by accident and we were like "Ohh" but the PC shut down normaly like it would if you hit the power button but as it was starting up again going to the BISOS loading screen and POST my mate hit the power button an addition 2 times to see how sensative the button was, the gpu fan spun up and then the PC cycled on and off like it would iff there was either no RAM or bad RAM. eventualy after taking the BIOS battery in and out and leaving it off for a bit the PC booted fine straight to windows, re applied the OC and carried on running smooth.

What i want to know is if anyone has heard of this before the random presses of the power button cause this to happen?

We have ruled out a problematic power switch because i jumped the pc with a pair of scissors.

\we dont kniw what it is really because everything is fine now and was fine before. It just all seemd to happen with the presses of the power button during POST.

Any advice would be grateful.

Thanks

I have the same motherboard and I've had it cycle on and off during POST, forcing me to clear the CMOS.

If you haven't already realised, pressing the power button during POST makes it turn off, my guess is that forcing the thing to power off during a POST might be corrupting some settings in the BIOS, or causing it to think that something that isn't wrong is wrong.

The only time I got those was when I got a BSOD and had to hold the power switch to restart it, so I am certain that the sudden shut downs are somehow causing the problem.

Hope this helps.
