Stay at 1440p or go 4K?

Evening peeps.

I have the urge to replace my current Asus PB278Q 1440p screen. I can't decide whether to stay at 1440p as games run fine at that res with my 980Ti or go 4K and stress out the GPU.

My current 1440p monitor choice is the Asus PG279Q and the 4K I was thinking of the Asus PG27AQ. Or should I just wait and hopefully get a 1080Ti if there will be one and get a decent monitor at the same time. There should be some newer models by then.

Your thoughts.

Kind regards

I'd stay 1440 to be honest, the only value I can see for going 4k is if you really need that resolution for production or editing. I'll leave it at that, I can hear the PCMR mobs sharpening their pitch forks.

Haha, so go for 1440 but with a higher refresh rate? My current screen is 60hz but can be OC'd to 75hz

While 4K is nice it is very hard to get to a high framerate.

I'd go 1440p with high refresh rates. it is not much of a visual downgrade and you will be able to play at higher settings at a higher framerate.

Thanks for the help guys. If you had a choice, which 1440P screen would you go for? Or would you wait?

Yeah I just picked up an ASUS PG279Q which was my first foray into 1440p but also high refresh rates. If you're looking for an upgrade I would def go high refresh/ free or gsync to give you the ultimate experience with current tech.

As the others have said 4k is stunning but not quite doable yet

I'm on the 1440p wagon too. Besides, many software applications don't like to run 4k yet. Windows hates it as far as text scaling goes to. 1440p is less hassle and still visually a massive upgrade, even if increasing screen size(my experience)

i have the same 1440p screen as you and i also had the choice when i got it just before last christmas, i went 1440p as i already have a 4k tv and tbh i think it is just a novelty.
i noticed no difference in the store with the 1440p and 4k to warrent the huge asking price was nearly double at the time..

I have the iiyama B2783QSU I paid £240 for it, I bought it because its freesync and I have a R9 290X. For the price I paid for it all I can say it's a great monitor and well worth the money :)

Thanks for the help guys, I find it funny, for the price of a decent G-Sync monitor. You can get a Freesync one bundled with an AMD GPU.

I've never owned an AMD card, been Nvidia for years. I had an old ATI Radeon card back in the AGP days.

Stick with 1440p its the sweet spot. It doesn't require a super high end set up to look great and play at 60fps. Like others have said before windows doesn't always play nicely with 4k screens.
