Starting to clock my E8600

Had a go on my Maximus before this but now I'm on the P5E64 WS Evo, I thought I'd better give it a crack.

This is pretty much the first real effort. Memory overclocked from 1333MHz to 1566Mhz @ 1.8V and CPU up from stock to 4.7GHz at 1.37V which is pretty good I reckon.

Only problem is when Prime95'in it gets a touch toasty.

Will update the bench threads when I've flashed the BIOS to a lower release as on this version, the only strap I can actually both with is the 200MHz strap. Tis very strange.

Yeah tis water...

These babies run hot hot hottttttt!

5GHz would need something stupid like 1.45 - 1.5V I reckon plus some other crazy voltages.

Will be giving it a go for benching but that's about it.

Great work mate, keep it up. 5GHz would be a nice place to be :D

Never gonna get that there for any amount of time though ay.

Just sat it back down to 4.5GHz for normal use I reckon. Plays at much better voltages there and temps.

Happily Primes along at 4.5GHz on 1.28V (possibly less but I haven't tested) at a cooler 61 degrees.

Tempting me back to overclocking....not that my CPU isn't OC'd right now (Q6600 @ 3.6GHz) but mmm 4.5GHz sounds noice :D

Expensive business though ;)

Yeah I guess it is, but I got this E8600 for like £120 which is what I sold my Q6700 for so that didn't cost me anything.

Bought this motherboard and RAM for about £155 and sold my Maximus and DDR2 for £110.

The case is a different story though!

The silly overclocks is why I went back to a dual from a quad really.. Was bored of being stuck at 3.8GHz with two cores going to waste most of the time.

Think that if I upgrade anytime soon it'll only be for the new 32nm dual cores. They should overclock like beasts.

That failed after 25 mins so I've given it .02 more voltage on the core plus a tweak to the nb and it's going alright now.

Just gonna find a nice stable 4.5 for everyday use and then I'll go for broke on some benching.

damn... thats hot, im getting around 65 pi 1m and 68-69 p95 on my freezer 7 pro at just under 4.7 iirc (ill double check in the morning)

other than that nice clock

running @ 500x8.5 24/7 atm tho

My room is pretty hot though...

Also got the NB in the loop.

But yeah do check and let me know. Am curious.

wow, great OC mate. impressed by that. so close to 5ghz

should superpi 1m below 10secs shouldnt it??? give it a go :D

Thats one sick cpu :).. temps aren't too bad. my e8400@4.5ghz 1.4v prime95 blend gets to 63c max on water. so 75c for 4.7 is about right!! Lets see some suicide screenies of 5ghz!! you'll do it easy!!

Looking good!! I had an E8500 I ran at 4.5GHz 24/7, they're a seriously good bunch of overclockers! Think highest I ever got mine was 4.7, but would love to see you get it upto 5! Like you said, not going to be realistic voltages for long use, but for a quick super pi run it'd be ace haha.

Like Bungral said as well, would love to get back to overclocking some silly amounts! Last year I was changing my CPU every month or 2, gotta love 775 chips and how many there are!! Now on my i5 750 and its not quite so cheap to swap them round now :(
