Star Citizen's single player campaign, Squadron 42, has been delayed indefinitely due to the sheer amount of work that still needs to be done to the title.

Read more on Star Citizen's delay.

oh man, "We're gonna have all the things when it's released"

When will it be released?

"Somewhen? .. never? maybe? who knows"

Has this been confirmed at all or are you looking to create another silly discussion, cus no where in that presentation did i hear chris say it would be delayed into indefinitely which usually implies cancelled to the gaming media and people perceive it wrong, i know not a lot of people on this forum are a fan of this, but the recent discussions about this game and sensational thread titles, uch.

Also the comedic value of this is slowly making up for the loss i made on this game. It's like watching the Titanic slowly approaching the iceberg while everyone on board is going on about how awesome New York is going to be. Don't worry guys, that iceberg is going to be nothing but a slight inconvenience. This ship cannot sink.

Total click-bait piece. It hasn't been delayed indefinitely (in the game sense of being mothballed) - it's still work in progress. If you had taken the time to listen to what Chris Roberts said, it was that he wasn't going to give any clear dates because the developers aren't sure when it'll be completed, which is not the same as "delayed indefinitely". Sad to see the utter lack of research for this piece.

It's the exact same thing, but it's been misrepresented by another site, which apparently then constitutes news. Also, I can't see why you think a game that is pushing all the technical boundaries, while starting from literally nothing, is going to be made quicker than a lot of other games:

Why is it that so many people are seemingly routing for SC to not succeed? This bizarre negative stance to the game makes no sense.

It is a little click baity, must be said. I'm not getting back into any other arguments about SC though.

There's nothing to argue over

If any other company states that a game has been pushed back (Blizzard being the main contender here), no one instantly assumes that the game has been canned. Saying "We're pushing back development from the end of 2016, into 2017" certainly doesn't give warrant to the claim that it's been delayed indefinitely  It was even said that hopefully by Christmas they'll have the full release of the first chapter from it.

I wasn't referring to that bit :) I'm agreeing with you on that, I was referring to the other thread and topics within that ;)

It's rather disingenuous to say it was delayed indefinitely as no official release date was ever announced. Any date that Chris Roberts has given for any aspect of the project was when he hoped to have things done by but this time the PR department told him to not say any dates because it keeps biting them when they miss them, hence, his constant references to "If I say a date, I'll get shot".

You are such a fanboy it's not even funny anymore dude. Constantly defending them. Why? You then attack the author who is mind you, a VERY well respected member of this community for simply reporting news? This IS delayed indefinitely until further notice. Which is the same as saying it's not releasing anytime soon, which again is delayed indefinitely.

Just because you are a fan does not give you the right to insult another person here. NO ONE here wants this to fail. We all know it has incredibly high potential. That along with pushing game technology(which would have been easier/faster/smarter with a custom engine) is not what people are mad about. It's the fact they constantly get delayed and let everyone down. 1 module in what is it? nearly 4 years now? That module not even being finished? That's pathetic. Especially considering they have basically a never ending stream of money coming in. This is what upsets most people. All these promises, no deliveries. Just them asking for a ridiculous amount of more time. They originally planned for a 2016 S42 release date, yet only 2 months prior to the year ending, they now realize its not going to make the cut? They have all that work left to do and they only now realize it? C'mon. They could have known this months back and announced a delay. Instead of getting people's hopes up and nearly the last second crushing them.

1) Why did this site not report on Kim Kardashian being robbed? Because it's not news. Like the article this piece is based on. The original article is click bait at it's worst and should have been ignored.

2) Scream fanboy all you want, but don't you think it's unreasonable to expect a game that is technically beyond anything in existence at the moment, that emerged from nothing 4 years ago, to be made quicker than games that already have entire studios set up and ready to work?

3) "Let everyone down". Who is "everyone"? Because from what I've seen, some backers expected these delays, so not sure who you are speaking for.

4) There's not just one module available. You seem to be highly critical of a game while not understanding it's current status.

5)"They could have known this months back" Really? What is that claim based on?

Well Im not sure how you can also make such a bold statement. Unless you speak on behalf of most backers. It could be argued that we are not sure who you are speaking for.

If I was a backer I would not accept this large scale delay no matter how gamechanging, historical landmark making and evolving this is. If stock holders of a company invest in something, do you think they will be willing to put up with constant delays while a company tells them that their dividend will be in the next quarter, then the next quarter, then sorry ladies and gentlemen you will see some returns on your investment now in Q2 2017.

there is only so much your average consumer will take before they are entitled to legal action. Which from what i understand has already occured for one backer investing alot of money in this.

I think you both need to calm down, its good to debate but holy sh*t some comments are becoming true popcorn material and the sort of bickering you expect from forums on other site we know to be pure troll posting heaven.

True, I think we can say that no one can speak for the backers as a whole, though from what I've seen (anecdotal), there are backers who are not deterred by the delay.

With regard to dividends, isn't there already return on the investment through things such as Arena Commander and the Alpha Persistent Universe? Also shouldn't investors be realistic about their expectations? It doesn't seem to be sensible to expect a studio to come into existence and produce a game that overcomes major technical boundaries in a time span that is less than the development time of a lot of other games.

Exactly. I agree that investors which is exactly what kickstart backers are, should expect delays. But what I disagreed with is what you had said. That backers should expect "this" kind of delay or "these delays" for want of better words.

I hope it succeeds, when a company pushes boundaries it opens up the world for all game developers to follow suit, improve and exceed where possible. But they need to be god damn realistic about things.

If I was a backer then I would expect to wait a while due to the R&D nature of it all, however, I don't think every backer realised how slow progress was going to be towards the end product. Nor do I necessarily think that at the time CIG were 100% clear about that to less informed backers. But at the time crowd funding wasn't as big as it is today - and the caveats that come with that weren't as well known.

I think that's the case that CIG was originally very, very bad at communicating how the scope creep would affect the release date, and too many delays without communicating why. That being said, over the last 6 months they have taken major steps to improve this e.g. weekly updates, monthly summaries, and of course, the refusal to give any set dates until they are carved in stone!.

IMO this game in full won't be out before 2018 at the very earliest, 2019/20 would be more like it.

From the videos I've seen of Robert coming on stage drunk to various interviews it's -

"Yeah we got your money now, You all willingly gave us over 100 million dollars so now we are going to take extra long so you give us more money".

Yeah I'm not even going to bother. This is just laughable at this point.
