Star Citizen is now selling virtual land for up to $100

Meh people just throwing noise around as its the popular thing to do right now, can all be bought ingame, and this thing has been on the drawing board for ages.

^ slight bias as i dropped a lot of cash on it, but i do feel people overreating again, in perfect timing with all the controversies out there.

There's no land for sale, if you guys acually researched before posting you would know that. What's for sale (whether you agree with it or not) is little more than an alarm system.

I got SC free with the purchase of a 290X quite some time ago, No way in hell am I spending money on it though and judging by it's current state it won't be out for at least another 3 years, And that's being very conservative.

I'll stick to Elite Dangerous, Sure it doesn't have space legs yet or in atmosphere flying but these are all things that are on the books and in the meantime we have a VERY playable game.

Ironically you should take your own advice. Because they are indeed selling plots of land. Should do more research eh?

Directly from FAQ.
What is a claim license?
A claim license entitles the holder to claim ownership of a small section of land on a planet, moon, or asteroid controlled by the UEE.

In addition they are quite literally selling land in a package of 4kmx4km and 8kmx8km. It's quite clear what they are doing here. So before you come in as a new member and have passive aggressive sarcasm, read the source.

Didn't that old MMO Second Life do something similar a number of years ago ?

They are selling a lot of virtual ships too ATM but you don't hear any complaints about that, and there is also so many misquotes stating this is a game it is not a game it is an alpha ATM that you can play and give feedback during its development cycle.
Also it is going to take awhile and has taken awhile due to the fact they are a new company and it has taken a few year to get site and staff together, actual game play development has only been for the last couple of years, one of CIG's issues if you can call it that is that they always miss their schedules as they find it takes longer to implement what they are trying to achieve.
So please lets try and keep things in its proper perspective.

It is in perspective. Just not along your opinion. It is a game. What else would it be? Alpha or not it's still a game. It's been in development for as long if not longer than many other games are yet it still has no foreseeable end. They keep adding stuff onto a schedule that's always being delayed. They have raised more money than any other company ever has for a game, they have more money for development than basically anything before it with maybe an exception or two. They don't need advertising, they already are so popular amongst PC players. It just takes one simple article about a patch update and the whole community knows about it by days end. They are taking forever to do anything with so much money invested. It seems more like a lack of leadership and/or design goals than anything. I'd be angry if I spent money on this.

Believe me I know it's difficult to build a game. As a CS major I'm learning everyday how difficult it can get. Still no excuse for such a well funded and supported title

I spend near 550 euro on this thing, i couldn't be arsed to be angry about it, rather they take their time, yeah they make dumb mistakes and delay's are unfortunate, but better let them make mistakes, do dumb things and get a better game in return. With the current state of the triple A industry that is just a mess in general, yeah rather wait for something, that grew up on mistakes so it gets better for it.

I get that however it seems way too much hoping rather than actually happening. We will see. If it turns out to be a great game I'd buy into it. Just not gonna happen for a few years

Last estimate put it at another 3-4 years until a fully complete game is out to buy.

They will be the Guns N Roses of the gaming industry.

15years to make a product, and when it finally gets released, its already outdated, underwhelming and forever known as the joke of the industry.

I have mates that are all over SC and are so Fan Boys about it that its sickening....

They are spending money and more money on the game yet when we have a discussion about it and I state my view that I will never invest in a game that is still in Alpha stage..

Then they get so butt hurt and go on a rampage stating that its a game that will never be finished.... its for ever expanding etc.

SC have succeded in taking money from Fan Boys more than Any Game before yet not delivering a even remotely finished game.

If the game is finished and is lanched and is good then I would not mind taking a look to buy. But untill then...... Guess we have to wait another 4 years.

when you consider how much money they are spending to make it. What will the retail price be in order to even break even?

How much of the money they raised has gone on development and how much sitting in a bank, could they already be at the point sales have out weighed development costs

Well not according to them. They state they still have much to add and implement. It does make you wonder if these tidbits that get added inbetween expected content are just to milk people and keep cash flow coming in. So yeah, you could be right.

I wouldnt really count the money from backers as they get their "free content" when its live, so in theory thats a loss of revenue (or at least a portion of it). Either way, they take micro transactions to a whole new level. Thank god there are no loot boxes with RNG.

What I dont understand is HOW some one can spend money on a game that is NO WHERE near being finished...

I have 2 mates that have spent between them like 1500e on the game. And they preach how good its going to be etc.

Even games supposedly finished have bugs and does not work from the start. So even NOW its best to wait 6 months untill they have been sorted out.

SC has gone to a whole new lvl of taking CASH from people and making them 'testers'......
