SSD RAID

Hi,

I need help with raid. I've got an intel x25-m 160gb. I'm thinking of setting it on raid 0. I know it's best to pair them with the identical drive. However where I am, those drive are hard to come by anymore. I'm wondering whether if i could pair it with other drives (other brand or model). I've tried searching for it online but to no answer.

btw are there any difference in performance between a 2.5" and 1.8" ssd. if i could pair mine up with a x18-m 160gb?

Thanks. your knowledge is very much appreciated.

You can do it but its not ideal tbh. I always use matching drives, its also worth noting youll need drives with a native garbage collection if you are going to raid them as TRIM will not work.

running 2x X25-M's (AHCI with striping in Win7, games drive). in my secondary rig two intel 320 series 160GB are working in onboard RAID 0.

i love! :-). i could not notice any unexpected drop in performance so far, not even looking at the X25-m's that have been working in HW RAID 0 for close to two years before (w/o TRIM support as OS drive)

i would always use two (or more) identical drives for any raid level. make sure you use the same firmware version as well (flash tool available from intel as bootable CD image) and the latest massstorage controller drivers (RST includes those).

have fun
