SSD OS Issues

SO my SSD came in the mail yesterday and I was eager to get my OS onto it and move on. I tried running a clean install and kept receiving an invalid key error. After 5hrs on the phone with Microsofts pathetic excuse for a tech support team its seems to be a Geographical issue based on the fact that I got the version of Windows 7 in the states. They are giving me the run around on receiving a new key. Honestly I'm done with it I cant talk to these people anymore. So I'm looking at a way to migrate my OS without doing a clean install. I know cloning is an option but Ive never done it and I read there are issues with cloning onto an SSD. Can someone lend me some advice please.

Acronis True Image. about £40 and walk in the park to do, create a boot disc and do a 1:1 clone of the existing disk.

DON'T use Norton Ghost.

Acronis is one of those pieces of software that you pay for once, and it becomes useful only once every so often, but you'll thank yourself for buying it every damn time. :)

So by using that software it wont require me to register my product key for windows again correct? Because thats the issue.

M$ might detect new hardware and force a new activation only way to know for sure is to do it an see. Your either better off buying a new copy of windows based on ur geographic or calling them again. As you already have a legit copy (I'm assuming) then they might be able to charge a small fee as opposed to new copy's price and give you a key for your area.

Why not activate by phone.

Windows gives you an 8 sequence number that you enter when you call in.

Not quite sure why you are limited as I bought my win 7 in UK and reinstall in Norway. I just call the UK number to get the input code.

Registers my win product online with no issues then. I don't think its an EU thing since Norway is not in the EU too.

I'm not sure that was just the answer they gave me. They tried phone activation, force activation, went through all sorts of command line force updates pulls and polls they couldnt get it active.

They shouldnt even have to do anything.

Choose activate windows.

Select activate by phone.

Select the number depending on which country and call the automated number

Windows gives you an 8 sequence number. You type this into the keypad. It is accepted by the automated number and then the automated number gives you an 8 sequence code back. You type this into the relevant fields and job done.
