Hi Guys

Am thinking about buying an SSD HDD for the OS, Am I right in thinking you install the OS on the SSD and Programs on a normal HDD.

Which is the best SSD to use in your opinion?????

And which storage HDD do you recommend??

Thanks

Hay

OCZ make some of the best ones fella, nom you can install anything on the SSD just like normal HDD's

it all depends on your budget fella as they can range from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand, but if you want a storage HDD then the 1TB samsung spinpoint F3 is the current fast drive, but as i said you wont need one unless you wanna wait for this

but thats alot of money and OOS

this one is a fast 250Gb

this is 240Gb but is slightly smaller device size wise

Budget for an SSD is about £400 - £500, are they worth it though????

Will get the Samsung Spinpoint F3 for storage

SSD's are marmite tbh. But imho they are worth every penny if you get a 120GBish one. Put the essentials on the SSD and the rest on your storage drive.

yer that one is under budget but its fast, there is a vertex pro that is £17 over budget at you get 20Gb less,i am not shure what the difference is between the to

So pre-order one of these, and get a samsung f3 for storage....

is there any other SSD's that are fast, that I don't need to pre order, as i'm nearly ready to build my new system?

Thanks for you help!

Thanks m8 have decided to go for the 120GB SSD, going to pre-order it now

The samsung F3 is it better to go for the 1TB or the Ecogreen 2TB??

The step up from a mechanical hard drive to a solid state drive is quite a noticeable difference. But spending loads of cash on a fast SSD will net you marginally faster speeds that I think the normal user will NOT notice in comparison to a 'normal' priced SSD.

For the best bang for buck, get a 40-160gb SSD and a 1TB storage HDD.

SSD gets slower and slower the more you fill them up. IIRC you do't want to fill them much over 60% otherwise performance starts to take a hit. Only load your OS and the programs that you most frequently use. For me this is less than 30GB therefore I would go for a 60GB drive to ensure performance stays fast and that there is enough room for more programs and system updates.

Hope this helps.

With TRIM no they should not slow down, but there are manual tools that can go in and clean any missed blocks.

A 120gb normal vertex is plenty tbh, the extra 25MB/s is not really noticable in a general use format.
