Specifications for Nvidia's RTX 3080 and 3070 have leaked - 10/20GB graphics cards?

Yeah £400+ GPUs are very niche in the grand scheme of things, these chips needs to exist for other markets so it makes sense they get rolled out as gaming SKUs too, but the small size of the market is a big part of the reason the price ramps so high near the top. Low demand luxury parts are high risk in every industry, so command hefty margins (2080 Ti market-share is 0.5% on the Steam hardware survey for instance).

Realistically with the current levels of inter-generational wealth flow most people under 35 will be priced out of these £700+ GPU markets nowadays, so it's only new regional markets that can keep demand up while spending rates of younger generations is free-falling so hard it's decimating even fertility rates and such.

But of course, in online PC enthusiast communities you usually hit the "target demographic" (Older PC enthusiasts with stable/disposable income/housing) of these cards square on, so you get a higher representation than the overall market which is dominated heavily by the under-£200 GPU models.

Problem is, some people have too much money to throw away on PC hardware.
Anything over £400 is crazy money for a graphics card.
Most sensible people would choke at that too.( btw I'm a PC gamer not sensible)
That's why most people game on consoles.
I'm considering it myself:- A screen, console, keyboard and mouse. All for under the price of just this one PC component.
VR is nuts too, add another £700 for a HTC Vive headset.
Well I think I'll just wait for the new VR only Half-Life game to come to a screen near me thankyou very much. (and believe me. It will:D )

But realistically this argument can be applied to almost anything, and therefore is somewhat more irrelevant. In every field of life there are extravagances. You have flights that cost £5000 and more. You have cars that cost £500k. You have vintage guitars that cost £250k. You have a t-shirt that costs £200. It happens across the board. If every field of commerce has an item for 'crazy' money, is it really crazy money? Or is it just a niche product?

True although many of those have a broader spectrum of offerings in total whereas with the cards the whole price range just shot upwards but has not much to show for it at the end of the day.

All these prices are just badness..... Ok. No one is forcing us to buy a 2080ti but this is a hobby for many and hobbies can be expensive....

But 1200e is a shop workers wage here in Spain. I my self is guilty of spending crazy amounts of money on hardware.... I also have a 2080ti....

But to think that prices will go up for the 3080ti then it has to be around 1500e+ - that will be INSANE.

I am one of the people (being a father of 2 girls) that will probably downgrade to a Ps5 or so. Just not worth the great money for top hatdware any longer.

Yes. Top is expensive all over. But I remember shelling out 700e on a Gtx 780 ....... and that was top Dog at THAT moment. Even DUAL gpus were 1000e (Gtx 690). But then you "got" 2 gpus......

Well said. There're better causes to spend your money on and that last longer too.

By the time the 6000 series is around we'll be looking at 1900 a pop prices. And I don't care at all for the new tech blah blah reasoning; my dishwasher soap has a new formula (we all know that's never true but let's pretend) and R&D has gone into it. Still costing me two quid and not 150 a bottle with an ever rising price.

I've stopped buying games that require me a better card than I've got because I refuse to pay Nvidia prices so this method is cheaper to me. If this ill founded trend continues I'll simply quit gaming altogether; problem solved. Plenty more to do in life :)

Remember this? I sure do and I bought a top of the line for fewer than 400 euro. And still it was considered too expensive by many people and websites, including myself. I found it a lot of money and had a sweat on while purchasing it. I'm still buying with the same sense today.
