hey guys, after a bit of help here with getting a sound card, the problem I have is, I have the gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H motherboard and I am using 2 r9 280x graphics cards, the second card is covering the pci slot that I would use for the sound card, is there any good sound cards around that fit in a standard pciex1 slot, also newbie question, can I fit a sound card in the last graphics card slot? thanks in advance for any help

Most Xonar cards have a PCI-E 1x version, which require a floppy power connector.

Also, the PCI-E 1x cards function in any PCI-E slot.

Depending on how much you can spend, I'd go for Xonar DGX or Essence STX. Both of them have a built-in headphone amp which is very useful indeed.

High-end cards like the D2X and STX (depending if you want surround sound or want to use headphones) are all PCI-E 1x. They can also fit in 16x slots, but I just looked up your board and you can easily stick the sound card in the very top (1x) slot:

Feronix, D2X and STX are PCI-E, D2 and ST are PCI. ;)

By the way, this sucks:

The mobo heatsink blocks the highest PCI-E 1x slot. :D

Yes, that's why the first 2 have an X in the name ;)

And wow, that's poor design, makes the top slot almost completely pointless...

It doesn't look like it's actually blocking it to me.. you'd *JUST* get a soundcard in there..

Have you no access to any other pci-express slots?

Get an Essence STX for your headphones, they will thank you :P
