Right, About 3 weeks ago i bought myself a shiny new 7600 gs 256 mb agp card.

(i wanted a 7800gt but alas none were in stock on the net that i could find lol)

anyway, I bought oblivion after checking if itd run on the microsoft game advisor.

it came in well above reccomended.

however, even if i run the game at 800x600 without lighting fx enabled ( hdr or bloom) with the shadows, effects etc at standard, the game stalls to hell as soon as i get in a fight with anything. (when outside imperial city the game just sucks

ive got latest forceware, which i hate as it seems worse than older releases, and my specs are as follows

pentium 4 ht socket 478 3.0ghz (oc'd at 3.5 ghz, 44c resting 55 at load)

1 gigabyte of elixer ram

7600 gs agp 256 mb

c-media 7.1 sound

ive tried the game at stock speeds, and with the card and cpu oc'd (forceware reckons i can oc the cards core from 400mhz to 600 but i dont believe this for a second)

anyone got any ideas?

Another gig of ram? Isnt Oblivion Ram hungry? I did run it on a p4 3.0 oced to 3.4, 2gb ram, 7800GS @ lowish detail 1280x1024.

I could run oblivion on 1280x1024 with my 7600 GT xXx, Pentium D930, and 1 GB ram on high medium/high settings :| At 1680x1050 I could run at medium settings...

Then i guess that leaves my disk.

ive not formatted for a year or so now and my disk is quite fragmented

let you knwo more when i try new things.

weird i thought i already posted on here :S.

yea i'd suggest a fresh format, maybe you have driver issues or somthing else thats conflicting?

yea the biggest improvement will be ram make sure that you don't have any ram hungry apps running in the background also get another gb of ram

550 watt, and i only have the bare minimum of drives and fans, (although temp isn't an issue)

its all very strange :\

altho its becoming apparant that oblivion is very picky about hwo your drives laid out.

also my hdd is quite old, im wondering if its simply too slow/damaged to handle the massive amount of data transfer oblivion needs?

No idea lol, but its fine fr what I have, its from my bros old pc and he never had problems using it on a more power hungry pc.

I think iv'e narrowed it down to drivers tbh.

Ill get back to you all when ive tried drivercleaner etc.

UPDATE:

I checked my PSU manually, and it turns out the 12 volt rails been raping itself for a while now, changed to a 500 watt PSU and now the Gpu peforms much better (Y)

strange thing, even though im On a 7600gs, my pc can't play Vietcong 2 properly, anyone know of any known bugs?
