VRR fir games running at 30fps. I doubt it would help much

Opens up the options for unlocked framerates to be useful. Remember that games that are capped at a stable 30 are almost always able to run higher. Allows us to see more games at 30-45 or for dips in a game that runs at 60 to be almost unnoticeable.

VRR between 30 and 60 FPS would be a console sweet spot. The VRR capabilities are also useful for TVs that need to run content at non-standard refresh rates (with no dummy or interpolated frames etc).

I doubt most games would run higher. Especially because most games dip down to mid 20's half the time. The only games that would really work are COD and R6S because they already run at 60FPS. Many people play those games but no I do highly doubt most games would be able to run much higher consistently.

Not sure you have a PS4 or a PS4 Pro, but considering I have both and how loud the damn things are in any game that pushes the console really hard(like IP titles) makes me doubt it very much. A PS4 user is basically screwed they aren't getting much use from VRR. Pro users? They are the only ones who will benefit but not sure it's entirely going to be widespread for older games. Newer games I can see because they have that target in mind.

Just remember that games have more demanding and less demanding scenarios, we have all played games on PC where one mission can offer huge framerate boosts over others. Gaming loads are never steady state. There will almost always be placed in a game where the framerate could be higher, and VRR is very helpful for games that have a high framerate mode but not a constant 60FPS (like a lot of PS4 Pro enabled titles).

I do own a PS4 and I am aware that it can get loud but games where the console gets all hot and bothered typically are running the console at its max anyway. Regardless I don't see the option coming to older games without patches.

Where the benefit will be seen most is in games where an unlocked framerate option is available, like the new Monster Hunter World Beta or Project Cars. Even so, I see Microsoft adopting this before Sony, as they are being very active when it comes to adding new features to their platform.

Most PS4 Pro titles are not running at 60FPS even with the Boost Mode enabled on older already released games. The games that updated to take advantage of it just got VFX updates.

Yeah the only games that will take advantage of this that are already out are R6S honestly. Ubisoft has been pretty good at updating for every platform.

But I do agree MS will do better at this than Sony. Sony basically has just gotten so used to being #1 this gen that they are becoming like Apple and closing everything off and everything has to be their way. Whereas MS is finally giving devs the options to open up and let the Devs decide what they want instead of enforcing rules.
