So who's gonna get a GTX570 then?

So, about 2700 ppd more than a 470 and using less power...looks like a pretty good card to me
cool.gif

Seems like a complete rip off to me !

It costs nearly double what I got a 470 for. Does it double performance or halve the power consumption?

That's what I meant dude. Price to performance. If something costs double that of something else then by means of value it SHOULD offer double the performance. If it doesn't then it's not value.

It's all about perceived value. I understand what you're saying, but F@H can be a different beast. The king of folding is still probably the 460, in terms of ppd per dollar spent... but the 570 now beats the 480 in ppd, uses much less power, and is $100 cheaper. That in itself means for folding there is no longer a reason to get a 480. The 570 on newegg is around $350 here, and a lot of 470s still cost 280-299. So we're talking about a potential $50 difference for 2700 more ppd and using less power to boot. In terms of F@H that is certainly not a bad value.

nice im gonna wait like 4 weeks or so b4 i jump on anything and shift my 460's to fund it, ill drop a ton of points in the meantime but ill be gettin more 570's when the budget allows

Default around 15000PPD , overclocked more
laugh.gif

got it running now ppd for the 570 is 16500k n the 460 ppd is 10k thats a 50% increase over the 460 nice
biggrin.gif
im going to put the other 460 in my lads rig along with his gtx260 what sort of ppd should i be looking @ on a q9650 @ 4.2ghz a gtx 460 n a gtx 260? think i'll get that folding aswell
biggrin.gif
this folding@home has sure got a grip of me
laugh.gif

Nice PPD on the 570
biggrin.gif

The q9650 should be in the 10K+ PPD area on SMP2 A3 WU's (non 670x's
laugh.gif
) while feeding two folding cards. Be sure to run GPU2 on the GTX260 and GPU3 on the 460. That machine at 24/7 F@H should do around 27K PPD.....

non 670x? is this a wu? im new to folding@home in fact im a complete novice full stop im new to the forums and overclocking its a whole new ball game to me.
smile.gif
ive gone from a aldi special[ medion ] to two self built rigs in the past 6mths n it all started with a gtx 260
laugh.gif
since joining oc3d ive become addicted to overclocking ive gone a bit daft but wth i now have i7 950 , gtx 570sc n a gtx 460gs glh in folding rig no.1 and a q9650 , gtx 460 , n a gtx 260 in rig two. although ive given this one to my lad its still an official folding rig
laugh.gif
thats when its not in full on battle in black ops that is

thanks for the pointers on my 260 n 460 they are happy folding away now ive just used the tracker as it auto configs the client for me. been having problems configering it manually probly just me being a noob lol any tips help or advice on getting the most out of my clients n hardware would be very much appreiciated
smile.gif
thanks in advance onwards and upwards is the only way to go happy folding dudes.

Yep, 670x are WUs. Crappy, horrible, take-forever WUs. They are the bane of our existence.

lol these 690x take for ages too its saying 2d 4h 55m to complete it seems to me that the smp client gets all the big wu [ days to complete ] n the gpu3 client seems to complete in 2hrs for gtx 570 n 3.5hrs for the gtx 460 i suppose it all goes of the wu you recieve atm rig 1 is @ 58k ppd n rig two is @ 25k ppd im climbing the rankings good style watch out guys im coming
laugh.gif
theres one thing for sure this winter n thats i wont be cold going of the amount of heat thats being generated my cpu temps have been a constant 60c for the last 24hrs+ the noctuas nh-d14 is doing a sterling job. is it ok to run 24\7 with these temps? btw the q9650 is only just hitting 50c. 10c diffferance between 775skt n 1366 skt just checked rig two you jinxed me dude dam n blast 670x no to worry its all for a good cause
biggrin.gif

Yeah, bigadv WUs take forever. 60C is brilliant on an i7 while folding and absolutely nothing to worry about. Mine is about 79C folding 24/7 with an H50.

You should slap a Noctua D14 on it
cool.gif

Remember that WC Domino (CoolIt) i had(have, its in the closet) difference = 15c
ohmy.gif

A side note: the 67xWU seems to be a very importend one in regards to the sience , i guess that's why you get it in a row sometimes...

n1 hmmblah for the heads up
smile.gif
just for peace of mind knowing i can leave it over night n its not going to damage my hardware up to 46th yipee
laugh.gif
happy folding dudes

i agree with snw you should change the h50 for a noctua nh-d14 i had a h70 replaced it last week with fantastic results it seems
smile.gif
60c on 100% load @ 4.2ghz 1.325 vcore for going on 36hrs now.

I'm going water cooled. Just saving up the pennies for a kit. I'm about halfway there. I'm expecting in January to post a build log.

O yea crap i totally forgot ..

Part of me wants to take the easy route and go with the NH-D14, but I've finally convinced myself to take the plunge so no turning back
laugh.gif
. Besides, with all the advice I asked for on FM and here I'd look like an idiot not going watercooled.

water n electronics oooow it frightens me
laugh.gif
on a serious note how much of a preformance gain do you get with water cooling compared to say the nh-d14? also how much does a good water cooling setup cost?
