hello
so my question is about smoking by my pc.
so I am a smoker and I do smoke around my pc. I've read and heard that its bad to smoke around pc's but I don't know why. and that's the question. why is it bad and what will it do to the pc?

I know its bad for me and I know what it will do to me and it's my choice so don't give me shit for being a smoker please :)

Apparently it makes the case really really dusty inside. There was a thread recently where someone claimed that most of the dust in their PC was due to smoking near it.
Other than dust I doubt you'd actually harm your PC in any way.

You're gonna get more dust in your case due to the cigarette ash, that's about it.

You get lots of dust and tar in your pc i am a heavy smoker and i have to rip my pc open and clean it out at least every 4-6weeks if you dont you will start geting a bilud up of sticky tar cloging up fan's and video cards even with 'dust filters' installed.

it will ruin the insides of your case. because it lines it with a lovely sticky tar layer which catches dust, and puts a carpet on everything.

Then more sticky tar goes on top of this, and then more dust.

[rinse repeat]

Smelly, disgusting sticky icky gooey shit will get all over everything where it settles...

heed my warning, I've had to deal with a PC like this before from a smoker, and I flat out refused. It's disgusting.

Ok so I've heard.
my old pc (2000 tiny) I had from 2000 to 2010 I smoke around that pretty much every day and the most amount of dust that got in to that thing was a bit of dust on the fans.
so with my experience with it as long as you clean it before it gets to bad you'll be fine.

It's not the ash you have to worry about it's the Tar vapour that sticks itself onto the components it's horrid and stinks. While I do smoke I do it outside (back door) it's a dirty habit of which I'm trying to give up.

I can spot a pet owner/smokers PC just by the dust these days, the orangey colour and smell are the obvious signs of a nasty cigarette habit.

This is a PC I cleaned last year owner was a smoker.

If your PC cooling is designed to generate positive pressure and you use dust filters on all intakes then you do minimise dust build-up. You'll still get a sticky coating of tar all over everything, but if you keep the dust out it won't stick to the tar and form felt.

Aye it's the sticky shit that will ruin stuff, dust or not everything still turns a really nasty brown/orange colour and starts to smell really bad.
