Hi Guys,

I'm having problems trying to find a decent slates with a good spec and that can a far amount of abuse i.e being dropped, covered in water, dust from build sites etc.

I have found a niced spec'ed one from our pal's at ASUS http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Slate/Eee_Slate_EP121/#specifications but don't think these will last very long in the enviroment I have plans for them to work in, basically I'm looking at moving away from our hit and miss PDA's at work for surveys and think a slate would do a better job with bigger screens and being able to use MS Office suite complete while on site.

Can you guys help me find something suitable? it must run Windows 7 and be like a tablet in design but Windows Mobile 7 is a big NO NO !

Thanks in advance guys & gals

I find it interesting that your saying windows phone is a big no. Tbh apart from it being in a small form factor the operating system is very good with the garantee of it being updated unlike with androide and does stand up well in office use in my experiance. That said if your viewing technical spec or diagrams i can understand where your comming from.

Have you though about waiting 5 months?? Alot of people i know are thinking windows 8 wont be worth it at all but i think we need to wait and see. When it comes out i bet you that there will be a flood of x64 and WOA tablets that come out of which youll have a much better choice as well as i suspect there will be versions aimed at people in the manufacturing/building industry.

Thats my opinion and take on the topic atm as there isnt enough good choice out there win-7 wise in my opinion, so i would wait.

Hope that helps in some way.

Thats fair enough, im waiting for a decent intel based win-8 tablet for just that reason, making do with APU's with touch screens bolted on and the win-8 consumer prieview as theres not enough choice atm for us engineers. The sooner quality products come out the better

hopefully it will be less than 6 months

Can I ask how much you want to pay??

from cheapest on to the pricey that you can buy in the uk that I know of

acer w500 =£350+

amd c50, 2gb ram, 32gb sdd

Gigabyte s1081 =£500+

atom n2800, 2gb ram, 320gb hdd

there is a slightly better model of the Gigabyte with 3g and bigger hd for £600

Hp slate 2 3g =£729.99

intel atom z670, 64gb ssd, 2gb ram

asus slate =£899.99

i5, 4gb ram, 64gb ssd

or my all time fave

Samsung series s slate =£929.99

i5, 4gb ram, 64gb ssd, keyboard dock.

or

Gigabyte T1132n 3 in 1 computer =£?????

I5, 4gb or ram, 500gb hdd

Good idea shame it doesn't support our custom APN's nor our custom inhouse software like material ordering systems which were wrote for Windows and don't want to stick in the windows marketplace/apple store/app store as different people could then be on different versions which would cause us a massive headache, I would rather recall all the mobile working products and update them manually

it must be a full windows install or nothing. Also that version of auto cad doesn't support our on site printers and external suveying hardware like our hand held Laser distometers which work with auto cad.

Plus we need RDP\ Citrix via VPN support to access MS projects and share point on clients servers which will be much much easier via windows.

It must be fairly well spec'ed but mostly I'm looking for something that can with stand major hardware abuse!! and runs windows 7 or 8
