Skyrim with mods and my graphics card

Hi guys.
been getting quite into modding skyrim recently but unfortunately have not had much success as i seem to freeze a lot in game. not a crash to desktop but just sudden freezing requiring a task manager shut down (often as i'm loading into a new area).

my card is a 560ti Hawk 1GB overclocked from 950mhz and 4200 memory to 1ghz and 4500 (has been tested for half an hour solid in the heaven benchmark so it is stable)

anyway just to cut to the chase, with this kind of freezing could it be due to the lack of VRAM handling all the extra textures rather than mod incompatibility. I ask this because it seems to happen with all mods that add or improve textures rather than the v small mods.

thanks for any help in advance

ive ran prime95 for 9 hours, and then i started bf3 and it crashed in 15 minutes.. so might reconsider your half an hour

the rest.. i cant help you with that, goodluck :)

It's unlikely to cause crashing IMO, may be just lower frame rates.
As litchu said, you may need to test for longer than that. I'd say about an hour and a half - 2 hours for Heaven, some will probably say longer. Even if it is stable, doesnt cause any harm to test for longer.

It's most likely to be some of the mods cause some instabilities - after all - they are modifications by 3rd parties. The GTA IV ones I used to use occasionally caused similar things

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I'va had the freezing on stock clocks too so must be the mods. That said I do think VRAM is a huge deal for games like skyrim and would be interested to hear if lack there of could cause freezing. In the meantime I will double check my mods

its most likely the mods are causing instabilities. many visual mods don't work well with others.
if your worried about vram try the texture optimiser, it helped reduce my vram usage by a sizeable amount especially with texture mods. it changes the textures into more suitable formats and doesn't change the resolution (unless you want it to). http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12801 here's the link.

SKyrim is a VERY unstable game. Although I have never crashed using my GTX680 I do get random FPS drops. Try removing all the mods and see if the problem still exists. If not load each indavidual mod (one at a time) and play with it. If no crash load another mod, then another etc.

Yes must be mods, I've had Skyrim crash a few times as well after some new mods. Disabled them and there was no problem. So always install/tick 1 mod at a time. Test it and see if its stable. Then add another one and test again. Some mods interfere with others like said above.
