It's wild to me how adding an estimated next year supply of 1.92m-2.28m dram wafers into circulation changes nothing for our current shortages.

It's nuts how much DRAM is being used. Though it is worth remembering that the new 1c RAM production comes from upgrades to the Icheon campus. It's not a new factory. As such, the production is being converted from old NAND to new NAND. So the impact isn't as large as if it were an entirely new factory, and the old factory was still producing its older NAND types.

Thankfully, increased NAND yields and chip densities will help with the shortage. They should be producing many more Gigabytes of NAND than they did before.

The quantities of NAND and these AI data centers use is mad. Nvidia's GB300 NVL72 has 37 TB of memory (17 TB CPU memory + 20 TB GPU memory), and that's just one rack.
