Single 780 or 770sli

Hey guys

Looking at getting a gtx 780 in the coming week, struggling like hell which one to get though :S

So far I have narrowed it down to -

Palit super jetstream 780
Gainward phantom GLH 780
Evga SC acx 780

I'm after the best overall? Coolest, quietest and fastest. :)

But on the other hand is it better to have 2 gtx 770's? I've heard that there on gk104 chips unlike the 780? Is that true?

I'm mainly going to be play BF4 on a 24" 1080p monitor with the hope to one day have a 1440p monitor.

I also did think about a hd7970 but then the architecture on those is nearly 3 years old :/
 
Two GTX 770s will give more performance than any of the GTX 780 solutions but 2 card setups are not everyone's cup of tea.

The HD 7970 or 7950 for that matter is getting on a bit but they are still very good buys and can be found at very good prices.

If you just want the fastest GTX 780, then the MSI 780 Lightning will be hitting the shelves in the next couple of days. The thing to consider with this though is it is a serious card for overclocking and could be considered overkill for everyday use.
 
Thats good, as with overclocking all I would be doing is turning up the power tdp % on the Evga precision app

Is the 770 old architecture?

The GTX 770 is basically just an overclocked GTX 680 with better quality vram fitted, so in answer to your question, yes it is an old architecture.

If all you are looking to do with a 780 is turn up the tdp % you can do that with any of them. Go for the cheapest one with the best cooler that fits your needs. When it comes to warranties EVGA have one of the best reputations and this is worth taking into account.
 
Single 780 all day if coolness and quietness are a genuine concern. Two 770's would be ahead in performance but probably not ALL of the time due to how some applications utilize SLI. A single 780 is far good enough for a single 1080p monitor. Add on to the fact if you get a 780 there is always potential for future SLI with that. I would get the EVGA SC or the classified can't be far away now?

If water cooling then its a slightly different argument as you wouldn't run into the inherent cooling issues of SLI but i'm pretty sure the best single card you can afford is standard procedure still.

That's what I was thinking of

As for the card, it's really cool and quiet for me :) as the three I have been looking at all seemed very close, I love the subtle 780 phantom, but then Evga sc acx cooled card looks amazing and from some reviews it seemed the coolest but it all depends on which review to go by which is soo confusing :S

I would be looking at the EVGA card for the warranty and iirc they allow users to fit waterblocks without voiding the warranty.

I would go for the EVGA card mate. Great quality customer service and warranties and a reliable company! Plus that new ACX cooler of there's looks awesome
 
Hmm... I'd actually go for 2x770, since for around the same price the cards will be FAR faster...

As for which 780, I'd get the ACX cooler... that thing looks amazing.

Def go for that then. V nicely clocked at stock and chances are you'll be able to pushing a bit more out of it. And remember when they're a bit cheaper you can always pick up another

it's definitely possible but it also depends on resolution as Titans have 6gb if i recall. Tom's recent video would suggest that the speeds on the classified 780 would def beat a stock titan in most games and with a little overclocking prob even more so.

at the end of the day if you're playing at 1920x1080 or even 1440p you're gonna have one hell of a card by getting that classified 780
