SilverStone Raven RV05 Review

Looks like a good addition to the series.

My question is, would an exceptionally mad individual be able to place... lets say a dual 180mm rad in the bottom and use those large air penetrator fans in the bottom?

Finally a proper Raven case! I was worried they were starting to become all boring and non-daft. Few :D.

Different I'll give Silverstone that, the one thing it does for me is the orientation to gorp at your lovely hardware from a different angle :)

Those penetrators aren't really that impressive as SP fans, but they do create a lot of air flow.

Go for eeet! maybe make it match your Tri-X.
Also I forgot about that film!

Just realized there is no where to fit my H100 without removing the 180mm fans. Don't really want to take them out and just have the fans on my H100 :( The main thing about the Raven cases is the better air flow, but if I remove the fans and just have the two 120s on my H100 it defeats the purpose.

That is the only thing stopping me from buying it now :\

Mod it! (somehow)

Why not get full water sorted in your switch first.... then you have the option to flip over to the RV05 if you get bored.

I like the overall looks of the case except for the dip in the roof, though not enough to put me off buying 1

I could do I suppose, just not got the money to buy all the water cooling stuff at the moment.

Just had a thought about trying to find a 180mm - 120mm fan adapter (looking now) or I might be able to get a piece of clear acrylic cut from from Ebay. 2x 180mmx180mm with screw holes spaced for 120mm and 180mm. That way I can mount the H100 to the acrylic and then it would also fit and screw on the 180mm fans.

I imagine the 2x180mm radiators fit in this case. It'd be interesting to run my two 680s off of that in something like it. Knab one of those 1150 motherboards that had a big backplate to boot, they'd look swell in this.

Would create a lot of wind noise due to resistance

Didn't think of that :\ But yeah it would, think i'll just leave it for now and start getting the bits I need for watercooling. Or buy it now and slowly add them in later, don't know yet, I need to sleep on it.

SilverStone do not officially support the use of a 180mm fan based rad for this case. However......we think it would fit. You'd only have about 40mm of usable space though as the AP 180s (which wouldn't be the best fan for the job anyway) sit under a recess.

I have been waiting for this, love 90 degree rotation on the MoBo the best way to eliminate graphics card sag, very tempted to get this.

Also very reasonable price wise,

:headscratch:
personally i think this is a poor effort a B- at best when looking at the Raven history. the RV-03 was my first proper gaming case and bought it based solely on toms review but i don't like this one.
It looks really cramped and small, not many cooling options, PSU is not filtered, hardly any mounting options and over all really poor layout.
don't get me wrong the 04 was a joke compared to its predecessors and this is a step in the right direction but not enough to bring the raven series back to glory.
The RV02 is still the best case out of the line up, TTL did a competition rig in a white one of these with custom watercooling (can't find it as was a few years ago) and it was awesome, best Raven build i have ever seen and the 03- (sitting to my right) was a good mass market successor. The only thing that could have improved the 03 (imo) was to add water cooling support in the front, there was mounts for 4 x 120mm fans but you really had to mess around with the case to get a h100 in there or take out the 180's (oh and a USB3 header would have been nice instead of the stupid extension cables from the I/O).
whole thing just seems rushed and seems to be moving away from the fortress design but the front looks good and the space between the roof and the top seems better, also cable management seem to have improved from the sling it behind the removable hard-drive cages that i have going on:o.
