Researchers at MIT have found what they believe to be a viable alternative to traditional silicon in transistors - indium gallium arsenide. The outlook is promising, and Intel are apparently very happy. Care to comment? Feel free to do so below...

It`s very understandable that the likes of Intel fund a number of these adventures. Many discoveries, or infact things that turn out just to be "student in a lab is told 3 or 4 things and looks at stuff a little differently". (to generalize)

Arsenide ? is that closely related to arsenic ? (take away an element and add another) I`m just playing with words there prehaps, the chemists amoungst us would have to verify that. Would there be any problem with emissions ? Heatwize ?

An Arsenide is any member of a rare mineral group consisting of compounds of one or more metals with arsenic (As) i.e Gallium in this case. Although the increased use of these materials has raised concerns about occupational exposure to them, there is little information regarding the adverse health effects to people arising from exposure. Feel free to check out its M.S.D.S though
