Should I upgrade or not?

In my gaming/ current main build my motherboard has died, well, it was murdered. It was a z170 maximus hero I have a 6700k that still works that does 4.8ghz. Im debating whether i should upgrade to something else and sell off the 6700k. i have to buy a motherboard anyway and z170 boards are more expensive than z270 in a lot of cases. I could go for something like a ryzen build 1700 or a 7700k build. My budget is fairly flexible. What do you think?

My other build is a going to be a threadripper when the mobo finally comes in stock. I have the CPU already. That system will be for virtual machines and networks and wont be for gaming.

id just buy a z270 board for now and upgrade when coffeelake drops.

agreed the 6700K will work great in the Z270 my step-son has my old 6700K on a Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K5

Count me in as well in saying no point in upgrading from your current CPU. A fresh new motherboard would be all you'd need. Dropping $300 on a CPU that's only gonna be around 5‰ faster than your current one ain't worth it.

I think your right. I am just going to order a z270 board. I think i had upgrade fever
