Shall I upgrade GPU for xmas?

People are asking what I want for xmas, I have no ideas soooooo

8800gt 512mb atm...

Rest of specs

Q6600 @ 3ghz

4gb Reaperx

2x raptorx

I mean my 8800gt does play most games fairly high but I want to play the likes of fallout 3 flatout @ 1680 x 1050

Ya know, just thinking whether a new card will be worth it. If so, it needs to last as long as this 8800gt, if not longer

i'd go for a 5770 mate its the cheapest way to get to dx11 and offers quiet immense performance for its size! its defo next on the list for me as an upgrade

Is a 5770 a big leap from the 8800gt? I need the new equivalent of a 8800gt, this has and will last me ages

the 5770 is nearlly the equilivent of the 4870/gtx 260

and has the potencial to be faster with overclocking

I'd accept nothing less than a 5850 to replace my 8800GT tbh.

The 5770 isn't a big enough jump to be worth it, if it does perform around 4870 level.

I have similar specs as you and was going to upgrade to a 5850 when the time comes, but will my Corsair HX520 be fine with it?

HX520 will easily do it, I ran a fairly hungry 7900GS of a 460w, so a 520 has a nice big rail for the PCI-e does it not? And the 5850 is a wee power saving thing, idles at hee haw and load isn't even that great

But yes, 5850 will be a lovely upgrade from the G92, 1440 stream processors!!
