i am selling my laptop right now on ebay, and my son is trying to sell it on this forum for me also.

i am going to be on a budget of about £400 ish and need to know what sort of pc i will be able to get for this sort of money that i will be able to expand in time...and also importantly to be able to upgrade in the future.

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

mm prolly a sempron 3100+ s754, 512mb stick of rosewillpc3200, and some value board with a via k8t800 chipset, psu, 350w enermax, hdd, 80gb western digital JB sata, optical, 8x dvdburner, and a case, some nice plain antec one. i'll post links l8r.

you could very easily put together a nice p4 setup for that price. do you want me to piece together a comp for you??

Well you could start off with a barebones bundle like this one:

A cheapish case:

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1254.html

A cheapish PSU like the 350w Abtec one:

A cheap vid card:

http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Category=289&SubCat=&Name=&Page=1&SortBy=1

A nice cheap TFT like the Dell one here:

http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Category=29&SubCat=&Name=&Page=1&SortBy=1

And any keyboard/mouse combo (cheap one here):

and I believe thats about it...a bit over £400 but they're all upgradeable components and should last a while..... :)

Dell is the best ! Its no overclocking machine but its defently quality ware !

But anyway its very bad to become a Fan of something (AMD or Intel). If you realy dont want to go with Intel there take a Sempron. Semprons are pretty well performing Low Cost processors.

£400.00 is roughly $800ish

dont really want to be playing games....mainly use for the internet, my daughter is going to high school soon so will need it to do her schoolwork on...would like it to be fast...with a dvd drive/rw

Ok without real prices in my head i would just list that :

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle

Geforce 6600... maybe 6600 GT

512 MB DDR 400 (GEIL) RAM

60 GB WD SATA HD

Some Cheap case

350 W PSU | If money enough Enermax

MSI K8T NEO-FSR or ASUS K8V SE

NEC DVD Burner

That schould cost around that price and would be a OK system
