Yep thats right - you may or may not have heard that there is a flaw in IE that Microsoft and several internet security websites have rated "Highly Critical"

This doesn't happen that often so if you use IE then get patching!!

All of us smug FF users can be warned too - it also affects the Fox

If you keep up to date with FF you should be fine but if not then patch up straight away:

The BBC said:
Windows users are being warned about a bug that lets attackers take over a PC via the Internet Explorer browser.

The bug made possible webpages that can compromise a PC without a user spotting the attack, Microsoft warned.

Code to exploit the bug was circulating online which led Microsoft to label the bug "critical" and said users should apply a patch immediately.

At the same time a similar bug was found to be affecting the rival Firefox web browser.

So get patching people!

Read about it at Auntie

EEK

I'm IE free, so i dont have to worry about that, but i better give the Fox a plaster tonight.

I only upgraded Firefox a couple of days ago, so I'm safe there, and I did my Microsoft updates last night.

I really need to get around to removing IE.

Hmm I upgraded my FF at home last night so should be okay, shouldn't I?

Shame that the brushed theme is no longer valid :(

Should be ok.

And give it a week or so and the new themes should be updated :)

Failing that try uninstalling the theme and re-installing it - works for me :)

Will give it a week or so as per your suggestion and see if the themes are viable if not I'll uninstall and re-install

IE installed, very rarely used, fox and opera! But question is if I do not lanch ie, am i at risk?

Just run windows update and you'll be fine. The term 'risk' shouldnt be taken too strongly in these situations, we'r all at risk from viruses and other intusuions all the time, its just makeing sure its as hard as possible for people to get in.

I would recomend giving FF or Opera a go, as not only are they safer, but you browsing experence will never be the same again, plus n000bs use IE. :P

there is a guide on it written by xms somewhre....maybe somebody cn provide the links or you can search.

title is something like "remove bloat from xp"

I jus set FF as my default and the shortcuts gone, still use IE for windows update and some terminal services however. Its good to keep it around till the world becomes more accepting.

Is it possible to really remove IE from Windows, or does it just get hidden somewhere?

Done this on a few computers for friends, the program I prefer to use for this is Xplite, found here:

http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html

This is a very powerful and excellent program. My preference is to keep IE, just delete the shortcuts from the start menu etc.
