Seagate Announce The 2TB Barracuda XT

What's that ? About 9p a gig ? (I am tired, so maybe brainfarting)

As opposed to 150p->250p a gig for SSD ? (and a smaller capacity)

I would be very interested in a comparison of a regular SA2 drive on the 6gbps controller versus one of these.

Atm I can recall speeds of 65/75/85m a second on average cheapness drives (possibly with 16/32m cache WD), 20-45 over the gigabit network, 10-15 over fast network, and I tend to think that just being plugged into a 6gps controller would boost that.

So I wonder if it's sales talk or actual improvement.

It could be ofc, that currently 32mb cache for a SA2 drive is about as "high as u need to go" - 64mb cache offering not much improvement - whereas 64mb cache on a 6gbps controller is another story. So they simply did that.
