Sapphire X1900XT - Running too hot?

you can just use ATI tool, and click the "Scan for artifacts" and just leave that running for 20 mins or so, then u can come back and check ur temps

it also stresses your CPU

Yeah, for some reason the default fan settings are crazy. They are so low and even when the GPU is working flat out the fan is not maxed out.

I've installed ATI tray tools and manually set the fans starting from 45oC at 70% and working up in intervals of 5. The fan does seem to be noisy but it's not a bad fan - shifts air very well. I bought a Accelero but not instaleld it yet, in the recent hot weather I've been playing C&C3 for a few hours at a time and I monitor the temps with load topping 78oC. Usually it goes 65-70.

I guess it depends of the room temps too (which were ~27oC) and also the case which is a Coolermaster Cavalier 3.

I've given up with ATITool. It keeps losing my fan speed settings or it screws them up altogether. I've lost patience with it. Are there any alternative tools?

Try ATI Tray Tools

You can save the profile and monitor key components (graphs, etc) I dumped ATI tools for this (ATI Tray tools).

There's also Rivatuner although I've not used it.

had this same issue with the default Sapphire fan speed with an x1650 Pro 256mb PCI-E.

They do this quite often for some reason. Apparently they never change the RC bios with the lower fan speeds to the actual retail final BIOS.

That's a little hot really. It will survive but you really should look at reseating the heatsink on the card and adding some after-market thermal paste. Also look at trying to improve airflow in the case a bit?

What is the ideal load temp for an X190xt? Is my 75oC under load (constantly 75oC when playing games) ideal?

Mine hits a high of 65°C

Idle is around 50-55°C

I think the cards just run hot :(

Maybe the temp sensor on the x1900's is a bit innacurate tho

hmmm.. I only got it recently (a month or so) and my case (CM cavalier 3) isn't the best for airflow. We've also had some good weather recently and the room temps have been around 23-27oC.

I also got the Scythe Kama Bay and got rid of the fan that came with it and put in a hiper instead. The CPU is running a few degrees cooler now, but no change on the X1900.

I might try the Antec spot cooler.

equk: You got nice temps under load there, but mine idles around 46-48oC. It's just the load such as playing C&C3 or Oblivion with everything maxed out it can reach 75oC :(

I still have the default cooler on mine :)

I put some AS5 on it and have a custom BIOS so the fan gets used.

Yup, I got default cooler on mine. Also using ATI tray tools to utilise the fan.

Set it to 70% on 0-45oC

then 80% on 50oc, 85% on 55oc, 90% on 60oc until 65oc then it's 100% all the way.

I just think it's airflow too in my case as the front intake fan is a measly 80mm, hence why I purchased the kama bay.
