It looks like Sapphire are bringing the AMD R9 290X to lofty new heights as the R9 290X Vapour-X is leaked online, the card reported to have a staggering 8GB of VRAM.

This leak comes courtesy of VideoCardz.com, which has so far accurately leaked the Titan Black and the 750Ti in the past month so this leak is likely to be legitimate, good news for us.

Sapphire were the one of the first vendors to come to the table with Custom R9 290 series designs with their Tri-X R9 290 and 290X cards, and while using a reference design PCB they are currently regarded as being some of the best 290 series cards out there, at least judging by the many good comments here on the OC3D forums.

By the looks of things Sapphire will be using an custom PCB this time, along with a backplate and a Vapour-X themed cooler reminiscent of previous Varour-X GPUs.

The GPU's outputs will remain the same as Sapphires other current R9 290 series cards with two DVI ports, a single HDMI and a DisplayPort. At this time more detailed specs, pricing and launch date remain unknown.

It is good to see that AMD are allowing vendors to make such overspeced cards like this, this graphics card has more ram than most peoples entire systems.

Hopefully we will hear more of this product soon as Sapphire officially make an announcement.

Might sell my Tri-X and buy one of these if they turn out to be better, depending on the price.
I'd be gutted if I got a poor overclocker though, my Tri-X is a pretty good overclocker and dose 1250 easy.

Holy shit that thing could potentially be a MONSTER for 4k. Can't wait to see if it's true/benchmarks.

Why the hell would you even need 8gbs of vram on a video card?
Normally you'd say very high resolutions. But then again if you look at the 780Ti vs the R9 290X at 4k, the fact that the former has 1GB less of GDDR5 doesn't seem to matter at all.

8GB of GDRR5 memory paired with a 512bit bus... ya that'll handle 4k easily(on bandwidth side of things at least). If this is true its essentially an entire PS4 in one GPU with all that memory and power(no not literally but figureatively speaking it seems like it):p

4 screen 4k

Someone will coin the 4x4 screen setup soon..

That's mental though 8gb lol

I have been playing at 4K for a couple weeks now. I have 2 780Ti's in SLI and I have yet to find a game that will max out the 3GB VRAM buffer. One thing to point out is that I have been playing without anti-aliasing. I don't find it necessary with the kind of pixel density you get with a 4K display.

I had bought a Gigabyte 290X when it was awailable in Hungary. It was very anoying to hear the card all day long. But I give it an EKWB Full cover block and its a miracle...:)

sweet looking graphic's card I do like the blue they have used, I wonder what the price is going to be

While 8gb is not needed 5 gb? 6gb? It's not like doubling the memory is anything new. 4>8 is as logical as a jump from 3>6. For anyone who maxes out a 4gb situation this card may allow you go use a little bit more ram that's all. Some people find value in that.

Skyrim lovers may just buy this card over the 780TI I know people were trading 780TI's for Titans! Just because they wanted more ram.

I'll be honest, this sounds like a titan(ish) ePenis card with no REAL purpose at this point?

What's the price point meant to be?

Pricing remains unknown at this point.

I'd imagine adding 4GB more VRAM would cost a lot, and then there will be the price for buying a higher binned chip etc.
