Any info on this? Been out of the scope for some time whats the news?

So you can't rip dvd/bluray's with these chips?

What is this stuff?

From Wiki

"The processors include a "service" called Intel Insider, which the company claims is "an extra layer of content protection",[19] and despite claims, is a form of Digital rights management (a technology that inhibits uses of digital content not desired or intended by the content provider).

In addition, Sandy Bridge processors have security features that include the ability to remotely disable a PC or erase information from hard drives. This can be useful in the case of a lost or stolen PC. The commands can be received through 3G signals, ethernet, or internet connections. AES encryption acceleration will be available, which can be useful for video conferencing and VoIP applications.[20]"

Paranoid internet conspiracy theorists have blown this DRM and killswitch thing way out of proportion.

The DRM only affects the Intel Insider service which is a streaming service provided by Intel, there are many other streaming services you can use, you don't have to use the Intel Insider service. Also the Intel insider service is only available to use H67 motherboards and on P67 motherboard you can't use the service so the DRM is not used on P67 motherboards.

As for the killswitch, it is for businesses only and is controlled with software by the company that uses the killswitch service. In order for the killswitch to take affect you first have to enable the service and set up a user account and password which is enabled on the killswitch software used by the company and if your laptop/PC gets stolen they simply deactivate the chip, which when or if recovered can be reactivated.

The same killswitch has been used for years in mobile phones, cars and laptops for years it is nothing new and does not affect you me or any other Joe Blogs who bought a Sandy Bridge CPU to use in their desktop PC at home, it only affects people who work for a company who use the Killswitch software and employees who are given a laptop by the company for work use.
