Samsung reveals its 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 SSD - The Fastest Consumer-Grade PCIe 4.0 SSD

It's nice with innovation and when companies are pushing the boundaries.

Although this is unfortunately not something you'll notice on a day to day basis, with normal usage.

You'd notice it in a PS5. These speeds will be required.

I'm shocked at no 2TB model with more memory. I think it would be quite popular for ps5

FTFY. Memory is for RAM...not storage devices.

That said....I will wait for the EVO series of this. Better value for the money.

While I am super excited for new releases ADATA SX8200 Pro is the only NVME most of the people will ever need.

Thanks for the attempt at correction. You're still wrong. I meant what I said. I want a 2TB model that has more MEMORY. the 1TB has 1GB of ddr4, I want at least 2GB of ddr4 in a 2TB drive.

Perhaps they will come in near future. Could be the model was not up to performance levels for release yet.

Doubtful. The 970Pro only has a 512GB and 1TB model. Don't think this one will change tbh

To jump in with the pedantry, technically you're both wrong, NBD and Digikid, since they're both memory. Just one is volatile and the other isn't. :D

This is true however convention in our tech consumer industry just makes it simpler to refer to ram as memory and storage as.. well storage lol

Really though I'm not sure why he tried correcting it in the first time It makes sense.. want a 2TB model with more memory. Idk it makes sense to me :D

I corrected you because you are using incorrect terms. Pure and simple.

In a storage device it is called STORAGE regardless of what people "nickname" it.

That is a FACT jack!

So going by your logic... an smartphone has both storage in terms of both raw storage (Ie where all of your apps etc gets stored) and storage (RAM)?

Wrong. Storage is where an OS and programs are STORED. Memory is used by a system for system functions and page file.

Yes they use memory chips FOR Storage....but then it becomes STORAGE and not memory.

What even is this discussion?

Both RAM and Storage are memory. They are both measured in bits and bytes!

Just because a lot of enthusiasts call something one thing and something else another does not change the fact that both are memory. They are just different types of memory.

I can't help but think of Intel's Optane here, the non-volatile memory that Intel wants to become a mid-point between DRAM and NAND memory. Optane is used for SSDs and in DIMMs as a kinda RAM replacement in some servers.

RAM and Storage are both types of memory.
