It's cost is slightly offset by the fact that AMD/Nvidia can use less chips to hit the same memory capacity which also in turn means that they save on PCB real estate which then has the impact of lower PCB design cost and materials cost. It probably won't cover the expenses of using GDDR6 but it certainly helps.
 
They should start producing current memory. We need DDR4, not some new whatever that will see the light of day two years from now.
