running aftermarket fans from a GPU fan header

(This may belong in the Air Cooling forum - not too sure.)

Not being happy with the stock fans on my 1050 Ti OC, I pulled the cowling off and bodged a cooling solution of my own:

(since improved with cable ties in place of the lazzie bands:)) However, these fans are plugged into a mobo header and run at a constant speed, leaving me no way to know in-game whether or not they're doing enough work; got to 78 degrees during a DOOM 4 run, which is borderline for me.

Is it safe to run aftermarket fans such as these right off the GPU header? This card has no PCI-e connector and we're talking around 2W for the pair at max chat...

Cheers,

M.

All done - got some 2-pin connector sets off ebay for two-fifty and bodged a soldered joint. Had to guess which way round the live and ground pins were on the GPU header, but I got it right; assumed the one with the diode in front of it was live;).

Ran the fans at 100% for a while just to make sure the board header wouldn't blow up, but they're only 0.06 A each. Now I've got temp-controlled GPU fans back and freed up a 3-pin mobo header!
