Rumored AMD Polaris Benchmarks have appeared online

The 1070 is supposed to be on Titan X level right? I still had some hope that AMD might surprise and get the same type of performance out of Polaris 10. This will probably leave me in an awkward place between not being satisfied with the performance AMD offers and not willing to pay 500€ for what nvidia is offering.

Not bad but far less than I had hoped for, would of been nice if it at the very least came under the 980 Ti :(.

Lets hope Zen & Vega are better. Come on AMD we need some competition in the market again.

You're dissapointed that a card probably going to cost around £200-250 (current 380X price plus a bit more because reasons) gets similar performance to one currently costing around £450-475(Fury)?

I'm actually hoping for the 480X to be a full 2560 SP chip with 980Ti+ performance and good OC potential

AFAIK the C7 is a 2304 SP cutdown chip

Polaris is aimed at the mainstream and AMD said a while ago that it would be ~390x performance for <300$. So i suppose hoping for 980ti performance was a bit optimistic. But damn i wish there would be a 1070 competitor to drive prices down.

Last November I bought my R9 Fury for £400.

If you're getting R9 Fury performance for anything less than £275 I'd say it's a pretty decent mainstream GPU.

the Air cooled fury isn't far off that of a Fury X in some games..

You'll be waiting for the 490/490X then. If they target it in the way they've done the 3xx series, the 490 is going to be the 1070 competitor.

That said, even though the 390 is a better card than the 970 (for the most part..) its still not hit 970 prices that much.

Wouldn't that be part of Vega? I'm not really willing to wait till the end of the year.

Yep. If you arent willing to wait then the answer is obvious. Just go for team green. DX12 is still going to be a decent while.

A rumor I'm going to start with no evidence (:D) is that AMD expected Pascal to be MUCH more than it is and aimed Vega too high as a result - AMD didn't want to have a thrashing, so they chose to only go mainstream at first and then go with a big die to compete with Pascal. When Pascal was proven to be not so impressive (though still very fast), AMD canceled their original Vega plans and change IP blocks and layouts and taped out the Vega GPU on a rushed schedule in hopes of getting it out in October.

Do you often write GPU manufacturer fanfic in your spare time? I'm inclined to read more.

To be fair, just by looking. Its quite obvious that the 1080 wasnt going to be a power house. Poor things going to be decimated by the next best card. Kinda how the 980 was TBH..
