Just out of curiosity, does Purehair work on Nvidia GPUs or are we relegated to meh hair graphics?

Yeah that is a little strange. Maybe the other methods don't play well with 'Purehair'?

Hate to sound selfish but to me it won't matter. FXAA is usually more than enough at 4k. That or I will just disable it completely.

Seems a pretty standard array of options. Would be nice to see what all the different levels for each option are though. Interesting to see how Purehair will effect performance.

This Tomb Raider is not AMD Evolved so the hair app is probably not TressFX. Not that it mattered, TFX worked beautifully on Nvidia.

Purehair is TressFX 3.0 which is open source. So it will work across the board. How well it works on AMD or nvidia will be seen upon release.

Hilariously Tress worked better on my 670 SLI than my 7990 :D

Tress was brilliant. I just wish we could see more of it.

Ultra grass is dead, long live Turf effects ..... This is the level of grass/foliage we need in games

<3 gameworks, somebody should put nVidia in charge of making games. I feel like all devs do is compromise fidelity and muck about making things delayed, lets just cut them out of the equation completely.

Wasn't there an AMD driver programmer guy who said that developer can't code for ****, and that while they had been working on new stuff really hard (ie Mantle, TressFX) the developers failed miserably to implement that because of lazy coding so AMD (and NVIDIA likewise) always have to work for in-driver improvements in order to get the GPU working how the dev wanted and not the other way around.

It's probably more that developers incorrectly use the graphics APIs DirectX/OpenGL and cause stalls in the driver. However, it's not like it's entirely the developer's fault as they don't have access to a debuggable driver. DX12 should hopefully reduce this a bit as the drivers do much less and more control/visibility is given to the developer.

There's some great info here and here.
