Hi all,

I ran out of space on my stock 60GB POS Fujitsu HD from Toshiba so I was looking for alternatives in bigger sizes. A great + on my laptop is that it is one of the first with SATA notebook HD's. This makes transfering data to the new one easier. So while searching newegg I found this drive. The Momentus 5400.2 120gb SATA150 Drive. Not only is it more then half the temperature of the Fujitsu, but it is dead silent, I mean DEAD, you can't hear it if you put it against your ear. My Fujitsu was so loud it sounded like a blender when your writing data to it and it would burn your skin while your typing.

Score:

Value:9/10

Speed:7/10

Reliability:10/10 (based on my previous Seagate hard drives)

Pros-

Cool

Silent

Seagate

Cons-

Expensive

5400RPM

Conculsion:

If your looking for a laptop hard drive for sure get a Seagate Momentus, they are excellent Hard drives and work flawlessly.

I've got the smaller single platter PATA version of this in a very, very quiet pc and i can verify that it's damn near silent most of the time. It does make an occasional clicking noise if you let it idle for a long time, but apparently this can be corrected using an AAM utility written by a different manufacturer (might be hitachi, i can't remember - hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it yet)

Seems pretty nippy too, i've not really noticed it being any slower then the older 7200RPM desktop drive it replaced but then i don't do anything particularly hardcore with it.
