Resources for A level ICT course

Depends really on what you have to write about at the time... Research academically cited white papers - your college should pay for membership to databases.
If they are crap/tight try Harvard Business review for online extracts or Gartner for free white papers.
Also try big businesses on whatever you are working on. E.g. If you get a data management assignment go to: SAS, SAP, Oracle, Business Objects, Cognos etc etc. they have plenty of info and pdf's on the subject...

Does your College have a system like Blackboard? Do you have a LRC (Learning Resource Centre) - If so, use these.

For your A level ICT I recommend studying and possibly even obtaining your Comptia A+ and Network+, if you feel confident after studying both of those you can put yourself in for the exams at a local pro metric test center and they are regarded very highly within the industry for entry level qualifications. Study to A+ and Network+ standard and you will breeze the A level ICT

That is a reasonable source for information, I would use it as an ice breaker in to any topics you are looking to study as it sometiems does not offer a level of detail that is fully needed.

It is a full time BTEC course. My mate pingu is doing the same course at a different college with both of those qualifications included. My course does not include these but i preffered the college and the course outline was not clear to me at his. Is it easy enough to get both of these qualifications externally and does it cost much?

Personally I used three different books. If you can only get one book then you have to get.

I also used Microsoft Publications for two reasons one is chances are you going to have to read them at some point if you going in to ICT so get used to them, and secondley microsoft books I find offer a simplistic introduction to new topics.
Then I also use Sybex books again I find them a good read although often lacking in depth, but for a next step in reading they provide a good bridge.
Also it is worthwhile obtaining mock exams.

When looking for books it is common that some have discount vouchers for the exams, so make sure they are in date as they will be useful. With regards to sitting the exams it shouldnt be too difficult two ways to do it contact prometric http://www.prometric.com/ContactUs/EMEA/default.htm and they will point you in the direction for obtaining the vouchers. Or check with your or maybe your friends college as it might be they are comptia registered and certified and will be able to obtain the vouchers at a discounted rate which is how I did it and at the time I think I paid £60 per course, but that is going back a good few years.
